A relative newcomer on the metahuman scene, Cosmos made the news on Carl Sagan Day when he flew a vacuum sealed cake, tubs of ice cream and sealed packs of fruit punch up to the International Space Station for an impromptu celebration.
In his superhero form, Cosmos is an illuminated human figure with glowing eyes. His features are difficult to discern and become moreso when he's expending energy.
Cosmos is a young man of 25 years, standing 175 cm tall and weighing 65 kilos. He has short reddish blond hair. His once green eyes have turned a deep golden hue.
Cosmos draws his power from the cosmic crystal embedded in his chest. It allows him to project beams of light ranging from visible light, to heat beams to laser bolts. His known powers include sun flash (a 12d sight flash), sun burst (an sight flash in a 16m cone), IR Blast (12d heat blast), laser bolt (4d RKA) and x-ray laser bolt (3d-1 Penetrating RKA). He can also see in the IR and UV band, and transmit and receive high range radio signals.
In the atmopshere, he can fly at about 1500 km per hour, but in space he can achieve the speed of light.
The cosmic crystal also sustains him. He sleeps very little, eats almost nothing and has stopped aging. He can survive extreme heat and cold, exposure to vacuum and radiation and has no need to eat. Furthermore, he's stopped aging.
In his secret ID (Dr. Sagan Storn), Cosmos worked as a high energy physicist. One of the projects he was assigned to was the investigation of a strange crystal that seemed to emit energy with no apparent source. It had been discovered in the salt fields of Utah and eventually found its way to Novadyne Industries.
In a bizarre lab experiment, the crystal embedded itself into the young scientist's chest. They rushed him into surgery in an attempt to remove it, but found that it had fused with his body and could not be removed without killing him. The company prepared to move him to a secure facility where they could continue to experiment on the crystal without interruption.
The sinister and secretive air around the move caused suspicion in another scientist working for Novadyne. Dr. Calvin Monroe was the son of one of the directors of Novadyne, and a childhood friend of Sagan Storn. Fearing that the company was more concerned with retrieving the crystal than with the safety of his friend (afterall, they were keeping him unconscious), he called upon another childhood friend, Lt. Tina (Celestine) Le Brun to help him get their friend away from the company.
In a harrowing adventure, made all the more dangerous by the fact that Sagan was unconcious, they fled to safety in New York (where Le Brun worked). Novadyne would love to get control of the crystal, but can't legally lay a finger on Cosmos. Nonetheless, they've been hiring metahuman mercenaries in hopes of bringing him in surreptitiously.
Calvin Monroe and Tina Le Brun have been friends with Sagan Storn since childhood. They're extremely excited about him developing metahuman abilties and have determined to help out however they can. Since neither of them have any special abilities Team Cosmos is often more of a hindrance than a help as Cosmos has to be concerned with their safety.
Although Cosmos has a secret identity, his main enemy (Novadyne) knows who he is. He and his three childhood friends live together as roommates in Manhatten.

Some questions/story hooks for Cosmos:
- What is the Cosmic Crystal and where does it come from?
- Are there more of them?
- Did it become embedded in Cosmos in a freak accident, or is it doing what it was constructed to do?
- What undiscovered powers does it possess?
- Why does Cosmos sometimes experience flashes of memory that are not his own?
