The letters of Eileen Horowitz (aka Elaine Cooper)
The letters are different from mundane letters as it seems she wrote a letter to someone and it was never sent as the response from the recipient appears below the original letter. The majority of the letters are to Ronald Abernathy.
Most of the letters are from the last few years. Eileen writes about living in Seattle, teaching at the school and missing the rest of the Gargoyles (mage challenge team).
In the late summer of 1924, in a response to one of her regular letters to her friends, one of them writes the following:
Sumner Hargreave: I was wondering if you were not too busy getting ready for the next school year, if you could come to Quebec for awhile. I have invited the others as I have an opportunity for the Gargoyles.
Her response: I have a couple weeks available and I was already considering visiting old friends so I will see you in a few days.
The next letter.
Eileen to Ronald: I am not sure about this Silver Twilight Lodge deal that Sumner wants us to join. I mean really, I am all for social clubs and the occasional cocktail party but I am not searching for power.
Ronald to Eileen: I know, I know, but maybe it is just a social club, besides I could use a break from academia for awhile.
Eileen to Ronald: I don't know Ronald, remember that Sumner seemed serious about the whole thing and Mr Whitfield unnerved me.
Ronald to Eileen: Whitfield is a very old wizard. He has great knowledge. It wouldn't hurt to see if the old man could teach us something new.
Eileen to Ronald: I thought you wanted a break from academia for awhile, now you want to be a student again?
Ronald to Eileen: You are trying to divert the topic. Do you want to give this a try or not?
Eileen to Ronald: If Sebastien is up to try, I will keep going. He has never led us astray in the past.
There are no letters to or from Sebastien. For the next several weeks, the letters seem to imply that the Silver Twilight Lodge is simply a social club. The following letter is different.
Eileen to Ronald: Ronnie, I am scared. What was that we saw within the crystal? This isn't what I wanted.
Ronald to Eileen: Be careful what you write, Iris is master of enchanted script. She might be able to read this.
Eileen to Ronald: I don't care. Every time I close my eyes, I see that damned thrice-lobed eye staring at me from the darkness.
Ronald to Eileen: Stop writing. I am on my way over.
The letters that follow are very simple. There is no mention of any strange incidents, just chit-chat. There seems to be a lot of communication about the rose garden at Tiyana Academy. She talks about the Scarlet Four Seasons roses, Climbing Tea roses, Ayrshire roses, and Comte de Chambord roses. She says the Scarlet Four Seasons roses are doing well while the Ayrshire roses are infested with vermin. The Comte de Chamord roses are always mentioned in a negative context while the Climbing Tea roses are always remembered fondly.
The final letter is dated from January 23rd 1925.
Eileen to Ronald: I want you to know, what ever happens, I still love you. I know it won't ever work between us but I must say what is in my heart. If we meet again after this night, do not hold it against me...it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. Best of luck and all my love to you and Jean-Paul.
She writes no more letters.
