The lepary are catfolk. See the Advanced Races Guide or the Pathfinder SRD for details of the mechanics.
The lepary are a humanoid race found in many places in Rhiada. The largest known populations are located in the Lepary Plains (named after them by noted geographers) which lie east of the Neimocrands and the West Vales of the Neimocrands itself. Their culture is tribal and based on a hunter gatherer model. The women control the tribes and do most of the hunting, while males move from tribe to tribe, attempting to find a place by impressing the tribal matriarchs with their combat prowess, which they use to protect the tribes and to fight off other males. Their society is highly matriarchal, and males cannot force their way into a tribe. They must impress the matrons of the tribe enough to be allowed to join.
In the Western Vales of the Neimocrands, there is considerable strife between the human herdsmen who've settled the region and the lepary tribes, who consider the humans to be invaders in their lands. This conflict frequently erupts into open conflict between hunters and herdsmen. Lepary characters who find themselves in the Western Vales may face considerable prejudice from the herdsmen who live in the area.
On the lower plateau, most of the lepary have adopted the human habit of herding sheep and goats. They get along fairly well with the other races living there because they've assimilated to the Karthian way of life. There has been considerable disruption to ancestral traditions of the lepary because of this assimilation. The matrons still own and tend the herds, but there are fewer beasts and other tribes to fight. This has led to a lack of purpose in many lepary males. Many have turned to athletics so they can attempt to impress the matrons with their stylized fighting skills. Others have taken to mercenary work and lots of merchants in the region hire lepary mercenaries to guard their warehouses and wagon trains. Others have take to a culture of getting drunk and causing trouble. This problem worries the matrons, but they've found no real solution to the problem. Lepary traditions pass property down through the females of the family, leaving males feeling like outsiders in many cases.
In Karthis (and other places not mentioned), many lepary work as mercenaries or guards. Many are in the Republican Army as well. Some work as enforcers for street gangs. Most of the lepary in these regions are young unattached males. However, a number of female lepary (mostly artisans and craftswomen) have moved to the larger cities and established artisan class households. The male population can be quite ostentatious in trying to impress these matrons enough to find a position in the household. Some male lepary have taken up artisan or craft based occupations, but female lepary tend to view these pursuits as unmanly.
Traditional lepary fighting arts incorporate natural claws and bladed weapons with unarmed strikes and agility based maneuvers. Traditional weapons include the kukri and the scimitars. The composite bow is also a traditional favorite. Many lepary favor finessable weapons such as the kukri or the lepary talon-sword.
Lepary Talon Sword
This curved slashing short sword does d6 damage, with an 18-20 critical threat range. It's a light weapon and counts as an exotic weapon, except for lepary who treat it as a martial weapon.
