Delaster Mandrigory (born 2863, died ?): Delaster Mandrigory was born and raised in the City of Mandrigor. He came from humble roots as his family name can attest1. His prodigious talent was discovered by Alderon Taldar (later the Master of Mandrigor House for the Arcane Order) who mentored him personally. The young Delaster showed much promise. After completing his training in 2882, he spent 20 years in the Mage Corps of the Karthian Military, rising to command the Mandrigoran Wands before leaving to take up the role of a mercenary adventurer in 2902. He spent considerable time in the Valna Bay Region and the Sea of Cimber to the West. In 2913, he sought and received permission to construct a Trade Gate in Kiondroghad (Manawy), for which he earned a seat on the Gate Directorate and the title Lord Director. At this time he turned his attention to research into Planar Magic. In 2941, he constructed the first of 11 magic orbs, called the Orbs of Delaster. In recognition of this feat, he was named Emeritus Professor of Planar Studies at the Academy of Magic. During this time, he wrote the famous Key of the Spheres, the definitive work on the planes. There are four volumes in this work, but a fifth volume containing secrets he chose not to publish has long been rumored to exist. In 2969, Delaster Mandrigory led an expedition to the region of the Planes known as the Silent Zone. Neither he nor any member of this expedition ever returned.
Delaster's seat on the Gate Directorate has been declared absent. Since he had no heirs, the Directorate agreed that the seat would revert to the Directory. Delaster's Seat is considered to always vote with the majority and to abstain in the event of a tie. The dividends belonging to the seat are used to fund the expenses of the Directorate.
The orbs of Delalaster
In 2977 the Tower of Delaster was invaded by thieves and most of the wizard's greatest treasures were stolen, including 10 of the orbs. Most of the orbs are still missing. The Orb of the Maze had been donated to the Academy of Magic shortly after its creation and was used in Dimensional Studies until it was stolen in 3163. In 3175, it was recovered and returned to the Academy of Magic. The Orb of the Dungeon was recovered in 3066 and was given to the Republic. It is currently used as a prison.
Delaster's Tower
Delaster constructed identical towers in Karthis and Mandrigor. Using an unknown ritual, he joined them together so that they are now a single structure existing in both locations. He lived here until his disappearance in 2969. After thieves broke into the tower, the Karthian Council determined that it was too dangerous to be allowed to remain unsecured. Since the Zargonites had destroyed both House Mandirgor and House Karthis, the Council allowed the Arcane Order to take possession of the tower. It now serves as Guild House for the Arcane Order in both Karthis and Mandrigor. The Supreme Grandmaster of the Arcane Order and both the Grandmaster of Mandrigor and the Grandmaster of Karthis has offices in the tower.
