Where is Lugash?
When traveling from Elocia to Lugash, you must take a boat. Sail out of Inarion Bay and around the Kaldrimmon Peninsula to the south. At this point, the Strait of Thus is 10 miles wide. Along the western shore lies the Duchy of Thus. Along the east lies Savage Point, a rugged coast of jagged limestone cliffs. This region is known to be inhabited by wild orcs, ogres, wyverns and drakes.
Sailing south, the Duchy of Thus gives way to the Khalkema River mouth and the Bay of Kurdan, while the limestone cliffs of Savage Point continue on the east.
The Strait of Thus narrows south of Kurdan to only 2 miles wide, while smoking Mount Melkhas (Melkhat) rises in the east.
South of Mount Melkhas lies the Aikonian Sea. The lands of Aikonia stretch along the west, while Lugash lies to the East.
What is Lugash?
Lugash is both a city and a region. The city is the only deep water port in the Lugash region. The land is a region south of Savage Point, between the Hedron Range (mountains that separate Lugash from the Issurian River Valley to the east) and the Aikonian Sea. These days its southern border is the Zerek River.
Lugash Region
This region is 80 miles long (north to south) and 40 miles wide (east to west), excluding the Hedron Range. The land is arid grassland, flat in the west, but rising quickly into the foothills of the Hedrons to the east. The land isn't much good for farming, aside from the many date stands. What Lugash does have in abundance is tin and beryl (of all types). Before the fall, Lugash was famous for its beryl production (emeralds, red beryl, golden beryl, and aquamarine). It was also a major tin and bronze exporter. The quality of their exports has dropped precipitously since that time.
The back country is mostly given over to date production and goat herding.
The Zerek River region is much more fertile. It specializes in grape and olive production. The north (orcish) bank of the river still produces, but the quality and quantity has diminished since the orcs have taken over. The southern bank of the river is well patrolled by Tadmuran forces. Known as Nashira Province, this area was once part of Lugash, but has been occupied by Tadmur since the fall. It's well known that this region is overpopulated, filled with too many Lugashy refugees for the space.
Lugash City
This walled port city sits on an island connected to the coast by a causeway. At its height, the city was home to 25,000 people. It now contains fewer than 5000. Little to no maintenance has been done in the century and a half of orcish occupation. The Bek-Utang of the Bloody Banner occupies the Royal Palace of Lugash, while the Temple of the Sacred Flame has been reconsecrated to the Lord of Slaughter.
There are only about 1000 orcs and ogres total in the city. Another 1000 half-orcs have risen to positions of power in the city due to their greater intelligence and charisma.
