In Rhiada all creatures of the dragon type are usually referred to as dragons. Most creatures called dragons in stories and legends are actually drakes or wyverns. True dragons do exist, but they are not very common near civilized lands.

- Dragons may have any alignment, although the alignment listed in the book may be viewed as representative of each breed.
- Dragons do not typically sit on piles of coins. [They do love treasure as much as any greedy member of any other race.] Most of their treasure is the equipment of those who've come hunting them.
- Much of the treasure you can collect from a dragon comes from selling magically active parts from its body.
- True dragons have dragonstones, magical organs resembling gemstones that can be used to make magic items that can incorporate gems.
- Dragon heart blood can be used to make potions, elixirs and magically empowered ink for scrolls.
- Dragon scales, teeth and claws can be used to make armor or weapons.
True dragons are rare for many reasons.
- Dragons fight one another frequently over territory and mating rights.
- Most civilized peoples do not like having dragons living near them. Evil dragons seem to enjoy eating sapient creatures, and even good dragons find it easier to eat livestock than to hunt other prey.

- Dragons have many parts that are valuable spell components.
