With the release of the Advanced Class Guide I was wondering at the possibility to create a true artificer class for Eberron using Pathfinder rules. I have read a few of the novels released by Wizards and do not feel that an alchemist works well as a replacement for the artificer. The ability to mix and throw bombs or alter the physiology of the user doesn't fit with the artificer motif. I feel that a true Eberron artificer is a blend of rogue and wizard/ sorcerer. If anyone wanted to try creating an artificer for the Sharn campaign, I would be willing to work with them in achieving such a goal. As an NPC class, I was thinking of giving them rogue abilities (minus sneak attack) and 6 skills per level with access to wizard/sorcerer spell list that have a duration. I see artificers as able to create items with appropriate feats, to enhance mundane items they possess (or others in the party) to improve their usefulness, and to have an affinity towards the mechanical workings of common items (disable device and use magic device). I would be interested to hear the thoughts and ideas others have about creating such a class.

Ok, I've given this some thought. There were several different builds of Arificer in the Eberon book. Here are my thoughts on what some these can be with existing classes in Pathfinder. We have the Alchemist already. The Magus works reall well for the self buffing 'Battle Crafter' if you rub the serial numbers off of it and play up the use of spell components. Fireball, is a bead similar to the Neckless of Fireballs, lightning bolt to a javelin of lightning, etc. For an Artificer who specializes in Homonculi and Constructs, you take the summoner, remove the Summon Monster ability , give them a spellbook and change their spell casting stat to INT, and give their eidolon the construct template. The wand using blaster type is harder to make, but I've some ideas there too.
