On the southern shore of the Rauvin River, sitting in the shadow of the High Forest, lies the town of Silverthorn. Fertile farmlands and plentiful fauna war with harsh winters and the ever-present threat of hordes from the wilderness.
The town proper is surrounded by a wooden palisade. There is a stone gate house with two towers on the riverside of the city. The forest-side has a wood gate house and wood towers. Due to the extensive rain and snow, almost every building has a covered porch and wood walkway. Several duckboards around town make traversing the muddy ground easier.

Important Places in Silverthorn
- Stonebridge: Spanning the great Rauvin River, is a massive stone bridge, erected over sixty years ago, by the mage, Melgren. The bridge is not just a simple arch of stone, it has a solid stone railing, four pedestals with statues, and it is wide enough for a cart to cross.
- The Docks: The stopping point for river traffic and one of the main sources of income for the community. The docks are located outside the town walls.
- Melgren’s Tower: This large stone tower on the south end of town served as the domicile of the mage for the ten years he spent in Silverthorn. When he left to parts unknown, the empty tower remained. It has since been occupied by a succession of mages, with its current occupant being the mage, Walgarth.
- The Square: While more like an irregular octagon, the Square is the nexus of the community. The mayor’s house, the market, the constabulary, the Stag and Moon Tavern, and the Pewter Hare Inn all border the Square.
Important People in Silverthorn
- Lilabeth Oakeshott – Mayor of Silverthorn. Mayor Oakeshott is a widowed woman in her late 40s. She is known for being a shrewd merchant and an efficient mayor. She is always pushing for improvements to the town’s defenses, as she has lost her husband and her son to raids. (human, female, 48).
- Cecil Grimm – Town Watch commander. Cecil Grim is a former mercenary that retired to Silverthorn twelve years ago. Six years ago, after the death of the previous watch commander during a raid, Grimm accepted the post and he has held it to this day. He has a position on the council. (human, male, 42).
- Walgarth – Mage. The mage Walgarth came to town nine years ago and took up residence in Melgren’s Tower. He makes frequent trips out of town, always saying he needs to look something up. He has come to the aid of the town when it has been raided, he is famous for being able to throw the ‘fireball’. He doesn’t have a seat on the council but he will advise them in esoteric concerns if asked.
- Herward Musgrove – Priest of Oghma. Herward is a jovial man in his late 50s. While the Church of Oghma only has a small following in the town, Herward has a position on the council primarily because of his knowledge of laws, codes, and customs. He has an extensive library, rivaled by Walgarth’s, although he allows anyone access to his books as long as they respect the knowledge.
