The Arcane Communications Company is a business operating out of New York and London, but is spreading around the magical world. They provide communications service to the magical community (for a monthly fee) as well as the magical devices that are used in the network.
Anyone who didn't take any level of poverty as a complication can afford to have these devices and services. The listedcharacter points must still be paid, however.
Sending Orb
These products of magical artifice come in several models, but all are similar in form and function. They consist of a large crystal sphere or mirror with a rune inscribed base or frame.

This device duplicates an existing mundane technology (although it adds visual communication), and it cannot be carried around to provide advantage in the field, so no points are necessary to cover it.
Portable Sending Device
These devices are smaller and more portable than the home version listed above, but take similar forms. They range from small mirrors, to solid glass orbs to pendants. All must be held to be used.

The devices do not function without paid service (or a really good Persuade check in order to scam free connections). They work similar to early telephones. If the character is within 100 km of an operator (usually found in a Nexus, but they are beginning to appear in a few other regions with middling sized mageborn population), they can call the operator and request a connection. The operator will arrange it if the recipient is willing to receive the connection. It can take several minutes to get a connection through.
The devices have a range of 100 km, but the larger devices used by the operators have a range of 1000 km. They can route a connection to many places in the world, especially N. America, Europe and all those parts of the world that are part of the British empire - notably parts of India and China. Japan joined the Concilium with the signing of the Accords in the late 1880s and has been working hard to integrate into western magical civilization.
