Overview
The County of Trivian is the area roughly 50 miles in all directions from Castella Triviana. The county sits at the crossroads of the Old Livonian Road, the Northern Road and the Mine Road. The county is mostly rolling terrain approaching the foothills of the Nivalian Highlands to the south. Much of the eastern county is taken up with the southern branch of the Adderwood. Most of the Livonian inhabitants live in the City of Trivian or in one of the villages along the roads. The villages not on the roads are mostly Cimbrian communities.
Much of the county's land is given to farming (mainly wheat, rye and chickpeas) along the roadways and orchards (apples and cobnuts) or herding sheep in the back country.
The Adderwood is named for the many spiders (attercops) of unusual size that call it home. Ettercaps also live in the forest. The most dangerous parts of the forest have always been in the northern reaches, but the forest has been growing darker and more dangerous for the past 50 years. The forest road that once connected the village of Villa Nucana with Urlanaeum on the far side has been too dangerous for normal merchant traffic for nearly that long. After the Silkwood Massacre (1331 Livonian Time), when a century (80 legionaries) was massacred by an ettercap ambush, the Count has preferred to send patrols the long way around the southern edge of the forest.
Military
Trivian maintains 8 full centuries (640 men) under arms. 1 century is assigned to guard the City itself and is never sent out of the walls. 1 century is composed of cavalry which is dispersed among the other 7 centuries. 2 Other centuries are stationed in the city, but are often sent out in response to provocation. The other four centuries are stationed in barracks at the limits of the county, in the last village before the border is crossed.
Population
Outside of Trivian, the population of the region is about 200,000, mostly farmers in small villages. The majority of them are Cimbrian Humans, followed by Livonian Humans, Adrellathim Elves, Kith, Half-Elves and then Dweir.
