Ordo Arcana
The Arcane Order of Tyrathis came to the region with the Livonian Army. When the empire collapsed, the Arcane Order was one of the few organizations to survive nearly unscathed. The order exists in all Livonian lands, but its influence varies from region to region.
The Arcane Order was responsible for regulating the use of magic in the Livonian Empire. It functioned as a self-governing organization with some government powers and responsibilities. No one was allowed to practice the arcane arts in the empire unless they were members of the Arcane Order and subject to its authority. In the Livonian Castellae of Tyrathis, the same rule still applies.
Membership in the Arcane Order is open to all those who practice the arcane arts (bards, sorcerers, witches and wizards). Membership is divided into 9 circles determined by the most powerful spells the mage can perform. The mages in higher circles hold more power in the Order and they have access to more of the Order's resources. Each House of the Arcane Order has a library and study areas. Mages are restricted to the books of their own circle or below.
In addition to privileges and resources, membership comes with responsibilities. Members must meet one of the following requirements each year in order be in good standing:
The annual fee for membership in the Arcane Order depends on the circle to which the member belongs.
*A class requires 18 consecutive weeks to teach.
If the member is in good standing, he or she can copy spells of his or her circle or lower into a spellbook for no additional charge. A member can copy any spell known in the House's library. Because the library is extremely busy, there is a practical limit of 1 spell per day and 3 spells per week.
