The Nouma consists of the thoughts and dreams of all the living creatures of Rhiada woven into one grand tapestry. By studying the Nouma some scholars claim to be able to divine hidden information and to even predict the future by seeing trends and comparing them to memories of the distant past.
The Nouma is sometimes referred to as "the world mind." Together with the Omphalos (the world soul) and Rhiada (Mother Earth), it comprises the the living world.

The Therans consider Morpheus to be the God of the Nouma, although some (specifically the Oranthid school) consider him to be a manifestation of the Nouma instead. Psionic rituals draw on the power of the Nouma to effect change in the world.

Therans claim to be in touch with their "dreamself", a sort of higher internal being that guides their actions, bolsters them and lends them strength. The dreamself is one with the Nouma and the Dreaming. By strengthening their dreamselves, Theran mystics become more aware of the Nouma and more able to influence it. Therans claim that all natural creatures (those which dream at least) have dreamselves, but that they are almost vestigial in other races.
Since some of the most powerful psions are of other races however, this theory may not be entirely accurate.
