From Luke
Jay Landsman AKA Atlas
Jay is a tallish young man who is a materials science student at Columbia University. He is also the superhero known as Atlas, a twelve foot tall, spandex clad muscle man who fights crime in New York City.
Jay was a troubled youth, growing up in Buffalo, New York. He was shunted from foster home to foster home He came into his powers gradually starting when he was twelve. At age thirteen he was arrested for robbing a convenience store and resisting arrest and breaking out of the Lewis Memorial Home for Boys. The police reports of the event raised red flags with Dr. Devereux’s recruiters for the Claremont Academy. Dr. Devereux was able to to get the local authorities to expunge the record and release Jay to the care of the Claremont Academy.
At the academy Jay was taught about his abilities and learned to hone them, to where they are now. His size, strength and abilities made him a perfect fit for Alpha Team. The adulation and public acclaim he garnered as a member of the super hero team had a profound effect on him ... he found the acceptance he craved and relished it. He also learned of the war (now cold) between the Ashura and the Deva. With the help of the academy he was able to piece together that he is the child of an Ashuran, it is not known who, and was either abandoned on the surface world to fend for himself by his father or left by his mother because of the often unsavory nature of Ashuran half-blood origins. He then endeavored to learn all he could about the nature of the Ashura and the Deva. Going so far as to learn the Ashuran language and the lore of both peoples.
While in his last year as a member of Alpha Team, Jay was caught changing into his uniform by a freshman journalism student at Columbia University, named Sonja Chang. She agreed to keep her silence about his identity as Atlas ... in exchange for exclusive press and interviews. She did not have a job at the time but her podcasts, exclusive web interview and incredibly detailed news stories about super crime and crime fighting garnered her an exclusive partnership with the New York Post Online and occasionally a print story or two ... if the details are lurid or salacious enough. With this experience she abandoned her studies at Columbia within the next year. Her relationship with Jay has now become romantic, but she is ever the dogged reporter and is not above using Jay to get a scoop. Jay has managed to keep the Claremont Academy out of the news (She is not willing to put children in danger, regardless of the cost).
Atlas in now a member of the Crusaders, winding up his probationary period and he has become quite the hero in his own right. He has clashed with gangs, super criminals and the like both on his own and as a Crusader. He juggles this with his studies as a sophomore materials sciences student at Columbia (good thing he only sleeps 2 hours a night).
Personality wise, Jay is a funny and charming guy. He cultivates a facade of being easy going, which hides his intense drive and focus. He is particularly angered by crimes against children, his time in the foster care system made sure of that.
