As we were about to open the secret door to the hospital, Gideon shows up – fresh from doing some secret druid stuff with birds and trees. Opening the door, we see a short hallway in darkness. We take a few steps and a glyph goes off, hurting all of us. It was a glyph dedicated to Wee Jas.
On the other side of the hallway was another door. Wolfram worked on it for a moment before opening it. As the door swung open, a bell rang.
Six guards came running. There was something wrong with them – they smelled like something rotting. Sir Thabo slammed down, remarking that they were zombies. There was a short, nasty fight before they stopped moving. Now we could look around. This room was filled with tables and equipment for preparing the dreamlily. Saphie rested while Duncan cataloged the room. We looted their strongbox.
Continuing up the stairs at the end of the room, we entered the basement of the hospital. Working our way through storage rooms and the laundry room, we came across six more guards in a barracks area with a narrow stairway at the end. These guards were just ordinary thugs with maces and were quickly disposed of. However, as we climbed the stairway, we were attacked again.
This time, the attackers were thin, pale with white hair and pale blue eyes. Vampire spawn, they hit us from a hidden door in the guard room. We turned to face them and finally finished them off.
This gave Wolfram time to search for and open the hidden door. Behind the door were two more vampire spawn. They offered a good fight before we destroyed them. The room was set up as a blood-letting chamber with tubes and knives and a couch. In the corner, we found two gallons of vampire blood.
Returning to the narrow stairway, we find that it opened up into a narrow corridor threading through the hospital walls. Hidden entrances and peepholes offered a view into every patient ward. This particular ward housed victims of the war, strapped to their beds. Duncan suggested that we expose the hidden entrances to the corridor to alert the hospital authorities, as well as the route to the blood-letting chamber.
As we made out retreat through the subbasements back into the tenement house, Aerwyn noted that the vampire spawn are often under the control of a full-blooded vampire. This vampire would probably be still in the city. Furthermore, the vampire spawn we killed were all Suloise.
