Silverthorn: The story so far…
DR 1371 Year of the Unstrung Harp
4th month – Tarsakh, The Claw of Storms
It has been just over a year since the Heroes of Silverthorn used the Gatekeeper Crystal to destroy the necrotic node network. This prevented the cities of Netheril from returning to Faerun. There might be agents of the Shade at large in the world but their plans to return from the Shadowfell have been set back for decades.
The harsh winter of the North has eased to cold mornings and colder rains. One day, the people of Silverthorn found a group of elves camping around Adric’s rock. They had come to Silverthorn to request the groups aid. Their own divinations lead them here. The great treant Turlong, was busy in the High Forest keeping the fiends of Hellgate Crater fenced in. It could not be swayed from this action. In other places within the High Forest, fiends were active and causing destruction, although they were not using fire. The elves asked the party to go to Grandfather Tree. It is an ancient elder treant, said to have roots spread through out the High Forest. The elves had sent in two units of rangers and druids, but they never returned and any divinations in the area provided no clues. The elves were going to take the party to the Shadowtop Cathedral, which is as far as they would take them.
The party left the next day. Within several hours of travel, they encountered a pack of deer running from giant spiders. After defeating the spiders, the party continued. Later the next night while camping, the party was attacked by a bone devil and several bearded devils. Adric turned the bone devil to stone and the other devils were dispatched. After a little stone shaping, the bone devil’s claws were turned to mittens and its tail into a feather duster.
Two days later, the party encountered a corrupted tree and a horned devil. Later they encountered a unicorn named Nietha who was investigating some dead fey which led them to a fiend that derived power from fey impaled on its barbs. This led them to a mushroom portal to the Shadowfell. Passing through the portal the party followed wagon wheel tracks to a hag cooking something in a large cauldron. The hag was evasive when questioned and the party slew her and her recently cooked up Banderlog. The party found she was some sort of alchemist. According to her notes, she made some sort of infernal infusion that would permanently add a fiendish taint to whomever consumed it. The party believes the fiends are going to use it on the Grandfather Tree and corrupt the entire High Forest. The party continued the journey to the Shadowtop Cathedral and the rest of the elves.
