Arielle ‘Trouble’ Malvia
The Malvia family had long been one of the Sixty Families of Sharn – a rich and powerful mercantile family with connections and influence that won them a place in the upper class of Breland’s major city. From their tower in Upper Northedge, they oversee a vast number of enterprises that import and export goods all over Khovaire.
The family’s fortunes began 200 years ago when Berren Malvia returned from the Demon Wastes with a new wife and a small fortune in Khyber shards. Berren and after him, his descendants, were able to parlay that initial windfall into a huge one. With the start of the Last War, his grandson, Balen Malvia, was ennobled for his services to Breland’s army. Even as the Malvia family rose to become one of Sharn’s leading families, there have always been rumors of a fiendish taint in their blood.
Sir Ribalt Malvia, the fourth Baronet, was shocked when his wife gave birth to their first child. The daughter showed the signs of a fiendish influence - the reddish skin, horn-nubs and slip of a tail of a tiefling. She was named Arielle. Unwilling to let an heir go, Sir Ribalt made the decision to raise Arielle within the towers and keep the whole affair quiet. When Sir Ribalt's wife delivered his second child, the young tiefling was forgotten. Nurses, governesses and tutors were brought in to raise the young child.
They were well-meaning and dutiful but Arielle felt the loss of her father and mother – now busy with raising two younger siblings. She named herself ‘Trouble’. From a private tutor who was also a cleric of the Sovereign Host, Trouble gained a calling. It was hoped that the religious training would help her overcome her fiendish tendencies. But she undertook to become a fighting paladin - a sign that this was not to be.
When Trouble turned 19, on Sir Ribalt’s influence, she was sent out to Sterngate, far away from Sharn. In this small town of 800 people, she would be forgotten.
Quote: "You're looking for trouble? Buddy, you found her."
Notes: Trouble is a redesign of a character concept I had written for Richard's 'Korvosa - Twenty Years Later' game. She is designed as a paladin with an Oath of Devotion but with anger issues. Hooks include her family back in Sharn, her fiendish background and her ever-present hair-trigger anger. (She likes a good fight.)
