On the command deck, the party sat at consoles and put on their mind-melders. The head sets allowed them to enter the computer generated world of Unity and hopefully, put an end to his plans.
They awoke in a small Androffan village. Around them were small dwellings, tan walls and roofs of golden thatch. The sky showed the rose and golden clouds of a sunrise. As the party stood up, they could see there was a church at one end of the village green and an inn on the other side. The road they were standing on, ran past them out into golden fields.
Nearby was a pile of clothes and a pair of shoes. Looking around, the party could see many more clothes as if the people wearing them suddenly disappeared. At that moment, the party realized that they were dressed in the same fashion.
With an effort of will, each in the party remembered who they were and what they they were about to do. Exploring the village turned up nothing interesting. Astrovel drew the conclusion that the missing people were the brains in jars from Deacon Hope’s Quiet Garden.
When the party left the village, they were confronted by two planetars who demanded they submit to Unity’s will. The party disagreed and cut them down. As the angels died, their forms dissolved into pixel noise before disappearing.
The road ran through fields of golden grasses, up and down hills crowned with trees of white bark and golden leaves. Viewing the countryside from one of the hills revealed many more small villages in the distance, each with a road that ran towards them.
Ahead, the road circled around a copse of trees. There stood an ice linnorm over a pile of discarded clothes and belongings. It breathed and the discards dissolved into pixels which quickly vanished. The linnorm looked up at the party and charged.
Following the death of the linnorm – which also broke into pixels and disappeared, the party continued. The road broke out of the screen of trees to climb a broad based hill on which an enormous cathedral stood.
The party paused for a moment at the base of the steps leading up into the cathedral before entering the massive structure. Inside, they found themselves in a broad room with exits to either bell tower and a screen separating it from the nave. Here, a group of Movanic Devas rushed out from the towers, armed with glowing broadswords, swearing to protect the cathedral from infidels.
The party made short work of the angels, blasting them back into pixels before pushing their way into the nave.
Walking up the center of the nave, the party could see two more Movanic Devas standing under the massive dome that marked the center of the cathedral. They could also see the feet of a huge angelic figure hovering over them. As the Movanic Devas flew at the party, Unity rose higher in the dome to fling arrows at them with his Bow of Slaying. Erasmus used his own flying to rise in the air to fire spells at Unity while Obin and Istovar engaged the lesser angels.
Amelina kept firing her laser pistols at Unity while Astrovel used his rail gun on the Devas. When the Movanic Devas dissolved, Unity was unable to hold the party’s attacks back. A lighting blast from Astrovel finally killed the computer program that thought it was a god.
With the death of Unity, the party was returned to their chairs in front of consoles on the Command Deck, facing a monitor. The monitor had a ominous warning :
UNITY Artificial Intelligence has crashed.
Rebooting in 30 seconds…
To boot another Artificial Intelligence – insert module into card slot.
Astrovel, realizing what needed to be done, quickly slapped Casandralee’s tablet into the card slot. The monitor cleared and displayed, “Casandralee Module booting.”
The party returned to the monorail station where they caught a train heading for the Engineering Module. From Engineering, they rode the lift back to the broken hatch leading outside. A short while later, they returned to the Palace of Fallen Stars.
Here, they were rushed into a meeting with Zernebeth and Kul-Init where the party explained what they found inside the Silver Mount. Zernebeth and Kul-Init thanked them and Barnaby Culter took notes.
In the next few days, the androids from the Recreation Deck began entering the city. Casandralee had found and opened the libraries of the Divinity to all, providing them with the knowledge needed to jump start an Industrial Revolution.
Astrovel decided to stay in Starfall, working with the androids to understand and use the knowledge from the libraries.
Obin returned to the mercenary life, rejoining his old unit.
Erasmus was suspicious of Zernebeth and the Technic League, deciding to leave Starfall.
Amelina returned to her work researching Androffan remains.
Istovar decided to join the crusade at the World Wound, finally losing his life in the fight against the forces of evil.
Grigoro – and Pogo – returned to their wanderings.
Casandralee became a goddess to the androids, overseeing their work and lives. She urged them to push themselves to understand and use the technology they learned from the Divinity. The goddess had a secret – that the Divinity Drive was never meant to stay on the ground. The artifact was slowly gathering power. In sometime in the future – Casandralee was not sure when – the Divinity Drive would jump again and this time, it would take the whole planet with it.
