A Three Hour Tour
Tessa D’Amberville was on the docks of Specularum, seeking the sailing ship Tigershark. The Tigershark had been chartered to take a group of explorers and scientists to an unexplored isle far to the south. Tessa, having been recently sent down from the Magical School in Glantri City for blowing up her classroom, (for the third time) had a letter of introduction for Dr. Sandalon.
Spotting the ship, Tessa hurried on board and made herself known to Dr Sandalon. The doctor, knowing of her famous great-grandfather, reluctantly gave her a place in the expedition and a berth on the ship.
Five days out, she had already met some of the others on the expedition. Talos Morgan, a bard was with the expedition. Antor Brin was a gruff fighter. Standing out was a Tortle cleric, Three Rivers. With the crew of the Tigershark were Devon Undertow and Marissa.
This morning, the horizon was dark with an oncoming storm. Clouds billowed and shone with a strange magenta flashes. Three Rivers noted that the storm was moving against the wind. The captain gave orders for the ship to be rigged for heavy seas and for lifeboats to be provisioned should the ship fail. Tessa went below to her cabin while others tied themselves to the masts.
The storm hit. The ship tossed and shook off great waves of water. Going to look for Dr. Sandalon, Tessa discovers only part of Dr. Sandalon’s arm and his assistant’s leg. Hurrying back on deck, she reported the discovery to Talos and Three Rivers. They return, reporting that Dr. Sandalon had teleported away but had a serious accident while teleporting.
The ship started to take on water; each time, it was slower to shake off the wave that washed over the rails. We took to a lifeboat.
Behind her, the Tigershark crashed into another wave and never came up again. The storm subsided leaving only a few lifeboats. The skies cleared – it was dusk but the stars were unfamiliar.
The survivors rowed toward a nearby island. It was one of many that dotted the horizon. After some hard rowing, the lifeboat slid onto a sand beach. Another lifeboat followed us onto the beach.
That evening, Tessa and the others cleared an area for a temporary camp. While we were doing so, large crabs and a giant crab decided to attack us. They were good eating.
In the morning, we started to head inland, looking for some other people. Cutting our way through the jungle, we came across a an abandoned village. Several smaller huts surrounding a larger hut and protected from the jungle by a tall palisade. The village was not quite as abandoned as Tessa thought as serpent-man zombies came staggering at us.
After destroying the last of the zombies, we started to look around. The village lay on a hill which had a cavern beneath it. Entering the cavern, we found more serpent-man undead and an altar. The altar contained a stone with a curse stone – all that died here would rise again as undead.
All thoughts of sheltering in the village were abandoned. We decided to return to the sea side camp and use the life boats to explore the island. The odds of finding civilization are much better searching for fishing villages and sea ports than going across the jungle.
