Ibis House is a mansion in Morningside Park, just across the street from Columbia University and Barnard College. It's owned by Ylana Dunkelmeyer, an elderly mage with specialty in illusion. She rents out rooms in her mansion to students. She not only manages the house, but acts as an advisor to her young adult boarders and as a watchful eye to ensure that they don't run into trouble with Magical Law Enforcement for breaking the veil.
The mansion is an enormous brownstone building with carved ibis figures on the stoop. Mundanes can perceive the house, but cannot perceive anything through the windows or over the back fence into the modest yard. A single salon is maintained on the first floor for mundane visitors, but residents are heartily encouraged not to bring mundane friends back to the house.
The first floor and the yard are common areas, open to all residents of the mansion. The upper floors are divided into men's and women's sections, and visitors of the opposite sex are not allowed after 9:00 PM (11:00 PM on Friday and Saturday night).
The common areas on the first floor include the guest salon, a library, a dining room and two study rooms. A magical practice room has been established in the basement as another common area.
The salons of Ibis House are available to any resident.
The cleaning and maintenance of the household is done by permanent unseen servants, as is the prep work in the kitchens. Mrs. Dunkelmeyer also employs a cook, a gardener and two kitchen assistants. Food is extremely good and is included in the price of the rent.
At any given time there are up to 15 young men and an equal number of young women living at the house.
