Sessara (SES-SAH-RA)
Oracle - Clouded Eyes Curse. Battle Mystery
Sessara is a young woman, about 20 years old, 5'6" (168 cm) from a merchant
family in Karthis. She has a very fair complexion, grey eyes and long light
blonde hair. Her family is of Manavian ancestory with many cousins, uncles
and aunts spread throughout the Niemocrands - all associated with the wine
trade. As one of seven children, Sessara was destined to grow up and be
married to a distant cousin to keep the merchantile family tied together
through blood relationships.
But when Sessara turned 16, her life changed. Some divine entity descended
upon her, leaving her eyes cloudy. Her world filled with a thick fog, hiding
anything further away than 30 feet in tendrils of mist. Voices started to talk
to her out of the mists, sometimes whispering to her of spells she could cast,
sometimes pleading with her, other times shouting at her. A powerful, thundering
male voice spoke to her often, advising her to take up arms and defend the
world. She finally gave in to get him to shut up, practicing with the guards
in the family's halls.
Her father visited temples and clerics, trying to puzzle out the changes in
his daughter. But no one he consulted could help. Sessara had changed, becoming
combative and moody, shouting at someone no one else could see. Her arranged
marriage fell through when the cousin heard of her plight.
After four years, her father had enough. He told Sessara to leave and not
return until her curse was lifted.
Sessara's one desire is to be freed from her god-ridden state and return to her
family. She has begun her travels to discover what divine entity has taken
control of her life and for what reason.
She has been on a journey, adventuring with her friends, Ladro, Tamlin, Arynn, and
Rhandro, exploring, solving problems and learning about the world. The storm would
never be far from her head. In battle, it would rise up, shouting at her to slay all
and become a conqueror. She fought against the voice even as she used its help to cast
spells to fight and to cure.
On the trip into the wilds of Galmeray (spelling?), from the time the party was returning
from the Redstone Mines, Sessara was under siege from the voice in her head. The mists on
her eyes closed in on her, the voices of her friends were sometimes drowned out by the
screaming of the storm's voice.
Arriving in Galmeray at their rented house, Sessara excused herself and went walking.
On a deserted street corner, she stopped and thought - is there anyone who can rid me of the
storm, is there anyone who can lift the mists from my eyes?
The roaring voice of the storm howled at her but something seemed to be shielding her from its
blasts. A maiden in black armor was standing against the storm, cutting its fury with a halberd.
Come with me, the figure said, come with me and I can protect you from the storm - but there is a
price. Enter my service, the service of Nuriana, and use the powers that I giftto you to protect
the world from evil.
Sessara agreed. She would become a paladin of the Shield Maiden. And for the first time since
she was a young girl, the fury of storm abated, the voice of the storm became quiet and she
could see the lights of the houses across the lake.
(Sessara is now a paladin. All of this happened or was imagined - in her head. I've written a story
reason as to the life-changing event. She'll be taking classes at the local temple in Being-A-Good-Paladin
while the rest of you are doing whatever. When the next threat starts - she'll be there.)
