Empire of Chryseon
East of the Halueth River and Vidarshold sits the Empire of Chryseon. From the plains of Galidor in the west to the Chrysona river in the east, Chryseon stretches from shored of the Sea of Endymion north almost to the Niemocrands. The Padishah of Chryseon is an absolute monarch whose power, in theory, knows no limit. By tradition he controls not only the government but the Church of the Sacred Flame in Chryseon as well. He has the authority to appoint the head of the Church and to remove him as well.
Chryseon itself is the largest city along the coasts of Endymion, with 100,000 inhabitants. Roughly 75% of the city are humans of mixed Midani, Sugda and Aikonian heritage. The next largest group (10%) are Chrysona River Kith, followed by half-orcs (5%) and then everyone else. Despite their small numbers (roughly 2000), the theran of Chryseon do maintain Astyanax Tower, making them a part of the greater Theran community.
Chryseon is an ancient city, founded by Midani traders from Sadiroth more than a milennium ago. The city was originally ruled by a coalition of noblemen, but the Sarasha clan came to power centuries ago by building an alliance with the fierce Sugda nomads from the plains. Chryseon was a rival to Kastria, Lugash and Sadiroth, but forged an alliance with the Livonian Empire when it came to control the western shores of Endymion.
During the rule of the Witch Queen, Chryseon suffered greatly. They had provided a safe haven for dissidents from Sadiroth until their defeat at the hands of the Witch Queen. The people were punished for refusing to surrender. 10% of the survivors were executed as a sacrifice to the Lords of the Nine and another 10% were enslaved. Xandia made Chryseon her northern capital. Several members of the Sarasha family had escaped to Karthis where they continued to plot the liberation of their homeland throughout her rule. Over time, the Sarasha came to be seen as semi-divine by the dissidents in Chryseon. When Xandia was killed, Arbogazda Sarasha led a force of Sugda warriors to reconquer the city and to defeat Laelia Corvanix, the governor Xandia had left in charge. Since that time, the descendants of Arbogazda Sarasha have ruled Chryseon.
The western regions of Chryseon, near Vadirshold, is known as Galidor. These fertile plains are the bread basket of the Empire, providing wheat and barley in the south and beef in the north. The Duke of Galidor is very wealthy. Like all the Dukes of Chryseon, his family is a member of the Sarasha clan. The Duke maintains a good relationship with the Vanir of Vadirshold. This is necessary because of constant warfare with the Lupari tribes to the north and west (in the Hills of Galidor).
The Hills of Galidor are technically part of the Duchy of Galidor, but the Empire has seldom held any real control over the magisaurs and Lupari living in them.
The western banks of the Chrysona river, north to the shores of Lake Mnemoth are known as Kitesifo. The region produces many lentils, chickpeas and dal. Although smaller than Galidor, Kitesifo is quite wealthy and influential. The Dukes of Kitesifo have very strong connections with the Karthian nobility.
The Khersa Peninsula sits near the mouth of the Chrysona river. It's the site of Chryseon itself and of the Duchy of Khersa. Its major products are seafood. This is the most important Duchy despite its smaller size.
East of the Chrysona river sits the hilly region known as Paldavrish. The hills of Paldavrish hold copper and gold in the naturally occuring alloy known as orichalcum. The Duke of Paldavrish is the wealthiest of the Chryseonic nobility.
The region east of the Chrysona river and north of Paldavrish is known as Danayum. It was once a prosperous duchy of Chryseon, but has since been overrun by the Janthy Horde. This is the location of the Tower of Flames, a massive tower along the eastern banks of the river, once a holy site to the Sacred Flame. Centuries ago, some sort of magical catastrophe occured and elemental fire spilled into the world. Now the tower is wreathed in fire and is home to ifrits under the command of Ibli, an extremely powerful ifrit lord.
