Alric Sawall
Alric Sawall is a human wizard hailing from Cyre. As he is a full-fledged wizard, not a magewright or wandslinger, he has done a little better for himself in Sharn. He works at Morgrave University as part of the Cyran History and Culture Reclamation project. He is also on good relations with other spellcasters with shops in the Everbright district. They have been known to direct work to him if it falls within his specialty. He lives in the Smoky Towers district of Middle Menthis Plateau among the better off Cyran refugees. He likes dinner theater and music, but he prefers painting. He is a decent painter even going as far as to do miniature portraits for identification papers. On occasion, he can be found participating in the Burning Ring on bare knuckle nights. While not strong, he has a certain quickness combined with skill that makes him a little better than you would expect for a wizard. He can also be found volunteering his time in soup kitchens. He also likes to 'people watch' and sketch people he sees going about their business. He would like to join The Guild of Starlight and Shadows but he does not have the funds yet to do it.
He is a wiry 5’7” man with fair skin. While he is 35 years old, his hair is white. In Cyre, those with white hair are reputed to be arcanely gifted. In Alric’s case, it is true. As he served in the military during the Last War, he has several small scars here and there. The only exception is on his back where he has numerous whip scars that healed poorly. For two years after the Day of Mourning, he wore black or Mourning wear, but for the last few months he has started to wear brighter colors. He tends to favor a black waistcoat with a flowing shirt underneath with billowing sleeves. He still follows the Cyran custom of wearing gloves all the time.
What were you doing on the Day of Mourning?
On a prison wagon heading out of Cyre to Thrane. His wagon was near the border of Cyre as the Mourning hit. The wave of mist was engulfing everything. Another wagon of prisoners was following his, a friend chained in the back. The driver jumped onto one of the horses and cut the leather that hitched it to the wagon. He left the wagonload of prisoners behind as he rode for safety. Alric couldn’t free himself and could only watch as the mist enveloped the wagon. When they reached the Thrane prison facility and his shackle was released from the wagon, he lunged at the driver that had abandoned the others. It took three men to pry him off the driver. Alric almost strangled him to death. The driver, Kyler Drogan, wanted Alric hanged but the prison commander took pity on Alric, giving him 40 lashes and placing him in solitary for a while. As Galifar held its collective breath, Alric served his time. It seems Drogan held a grudge because he tried twice to have Alric killed in prison. There was no solid evidence pointing towards Drogan so the prison commander couldn’t do anything to him. He did arrange to have Alric be part of a prisoner exchange with Breland.
Possible NPCs:
Kyler Drogan: Once Alric left the Thrane prison camp, he lost track of Kyler. What he doesn't know is that Kyler is the type of man to hold grudges. He was part of the Black Highway network and he still has ties to it. He is a Thrane lowlife with connections.
Beren Lanner: Brelish government aide, formerly with King's Lanterns in an administrative roll. He and Alric met at a Cyran Relief fundraiser. They date whenever their busy schedules allow.
Desidaria Roche: Cyran refugee. She is constantly espousing that the other nations owe it to Cyre to rebuild it. She says they need to give land and resources to the restoration of Cyre. In private meetings, she has made veiled suggestions about taking what Cyre needs. She wants to get Alric in her camp.
Nebron Tool: Halfing of the Boromar clan. He lets Alric know if there is a serious problem in the Cyran refugee areas. Alric helped him once against a Daask thug.
Channa Graccen: Brelish wizard. She is a low-level member of The Guild of Starlight and Shadows. She served in the military during the war and it gave her a sense of adventure. She talks of going to Xendrik but she has yet to make the trip.
