We were in the Depths, hunting the rumors of a Temple to the Dragon Below that was thought to be supported by Daask. We had just used an secret entrance to the Depths and broken into a series of rooms guarded by gnolls. They were defeated. After a short rest, we headed in the general direction that the gnoll footprints were going. It was a half-hour later, when we came across two ogres guarding a door. After killing the ogres, Summer unlocked the door. Stepping inside, we were promptly attacked by kobolds. They were shouting “We’ll feed you to the Dragon” as they charged. A winged kobold in the rear kept throwing spells at us. When the dust had settled, Roscoe finds a piece of paper with the winged kobold; it was written in Draconic. It turns out to be a written description of how to get from the sewer entrance to the Depths to a location – possibly the temple – deep in the Depths. Returning to Callestan, we decide to follow the map’s directions the next morning.
It was while we’re eating breakfast at the Golden Anvil that we heard that Daask has begun searching for us. We ignored the warning and headed back to the sewer.
After an hour’s travelling through the tunnels and abandoned rooms, Eh’van is suddenly attacked by the watery pseudo-pod of a Slithering Tracker. It was made out of reddish water and bore Eh’van’s face. The thing was created by a hag’s ritual, using the water from a living person and a few drops of blood from the person being hunted. We destroy it but we would now take Daask’s threat seriously.
It was getting close to the end of the kobold’s directions. Going down a broad hallway, Summer was slammed with psychic damage – a small grey ooze was lying in wait. A little further, the darkness of the hallway was lifted by a mauve glow. The glow, like flakes of light, was coming from a fungus growing in the walls. Summer scraped some from the stones for Alric and Roscoe to examine. Roscoe identified it as the sign of Kyber – it grows wherever there is a temple to the Dragon Below nearby.
We have but one more turn until we arrive. But around the bend, we find a creature with a beak and hooked arms. Ir squawks loudly before it attacked. After we drop it, Alric notes that it was a Hook Horror.
The Hooked Horror was guarding a sealed door. Summer opens the door to reveal a large, barrel-vaulted chamber. It was the temple we had been seeking and it was not empty – three humanoid creatures like skinned humans with tentacles growing from their backs looked at us. Roscoe hits one and Summer ran across the chamber to finish it off. The other two go after Eh’van, Roscoe and Cypher.
As the last of the skinned humanoids dropped, five cultists run into the chamber from a side passage. While most of the them tried to bring down Cypher and Eh’van, another was standing back, casting unholy spells at us. Our skills at combat began to drop the number of cultists when another six cultist entered the chamber from a different passage.
Finally, we kill the last of the maddened worshippers. Now, we could go on and search the rest of the temple and surrounding rooms. There is no clue that Daask is supporting the temple – but we do find hints that there was a naga involved. She is currently somewhere else. In another room, we find the remains of people taken from Sharn and killed by the cultists.
Returning back to Callestan and the Golden Anvil, we made our report to the Boromar clan. After a good dinner, we decided to return the next day to the Depths and hunt that naga.
In the morning, we were walking across Callestan to the sewer entrance when we noticed the streets were empty. Something is wrong. Then three people step out into the street in front of us. The leader – a female wizard – speaks, telling us that Daask wants us killed for meddling. Her two bodyguards wore studded leather and bore short swords.
Summer sprung into action and killed one of the bodyguards. Cypher went after the other one. Then two more bodyguards appeared behind Roscoe and Alric. Summer ran back to help Roscoe. The woman – an eldritch knight – fought well but finally went down. The one remaining bodyguard fled.
We had enough time to paw through their stuff before retreating to the Golden Anvil again.
