Our plans to go hunt down the naga of the Temple Below came to an end when we realized that we knew nothing about nagas. A trip to Morgrave University made us realize that we really didn’t know anything about nagas – especially, how to finally kill one.
We decide to take what we had found out about the temple to the City Watch and let someone bigger deal with the problem. A jaunt up to the City Watch Station in Middle Dura’s Bazaar got us an interview with Lieutenant Sharra. She seemed familiar with some of the names we mentioned although the references to the Serpent were confusing – there’s rumors of a male medusa in Daask as well.
The next day, the 6th of the first month, 998, we took it easy. The following day, we met Aledrin Devonne at the Golden Anvil. She told us the entrance to the lost forge is at the sewer junction E-213. It is protected by a House Cannith arcane lock – she gives us a temporary key for 48 hours.
To get to the sewer junction, we need to travel through Mallorn’s Gate to Dorasheen Tower and descend several levels below the city. Mallorn’s Gate is a rundown ward, home to a great part of Sharn’s goblin community. At the street level of Dorasheen Tower, we come across a scene of goods piled on blankets while bugbears, goblins and shifters paw through the stuff. This is the Rat’s Market and it is run by a goblin known as Scagen. Roscoe ‘befriended’ Scagen and persuaded him to show us the way.
As we head to the junction, Scagen mentions that a metal man and three lupine shifters had also asked for directions to E-213. Our destination lies among flowing water, 12 sets of stairs below the street. In a busy tunnel with the echoes of valves opening and closing, we find a wall marked with the insignia of House Cannith. It was then that the Warforged and three shifters attack. Summer jumps at one of the shifters while the others busy themselves with the Warforged. When the Warforged went down, the remaining shifters ran. Out of the Warforged’s corpse, a hatch opened and a small flying machine popped out. Cypher smashed it before it could fly off.
Summer used the temporary key to unlock the House Cannith seal. On the other side of the sealed door was a 100’ shaft falling into the darkness. Tying a series of ropes to the door, we descended to the base of the shaft. We had to step over the remains of a lifting disk at the bottom to enter a 200’ passage.
That passage ended up in a vast hall, large enough that we could see ruined buildings standing within it. We took a few steps into the hall -and were promptly swarmed by small brass constructs. Summer and Cypher got the most of the damage before we smashed them.
Weaving between the wrecked buildings and the piles of rubble, we headed for the center of the hall. On the way, we had to fight off an attack of five Horrid Rats. Our only side trip was a quick visit to a ruined temple of Onnatar where we found cool, clear water which acted like potions of healing.
The next building we stopped at was a large, relatively undamaged rectangular structure. It appeared locked with no windows or other doors. Summer did not think she could get us inside. Cypher decided to climb to the roof where he discovered a hole to the interior. Cypher started to descend to the ground floor when he was attacked by iron dogs. Summer scrambled down to help him.
From the wreckage of the iron dogs, we found each had uniquely shaped metals rods mounted in their heads. From the rubble covering the remains of a third iron dog, we removed yet another shaped rod. They fit into slots on top of a creation forge within the building. Inserting the rods opened a secret compartment within the forge. The compartment held the House Cannith schema and other stuff. Roscoe goes through the rest of the forge’s area, looking for small stuff that he could offer Scagen in thanks.
Now, we start our long way back. In the 200’ passage to the shaft, we meet another Warforged. He demands the schema. Then it attacked. It dropped Summer before falling before our own attacks. In looting his body, we discovered a magical sword.
Back at the Golden Anvil, we turn over the schema and the other things we found to Aledrin Devonne. She is happy with the schema, delighted with the map we found and willing to buy the remains of the two iron dogs. The schema and map will require further thought and she will contact us when she is ready. We break up and go home for a week or so.
