Back at our townhouse, Aerwyn was all ready to return to the warmth of her room. But first, we had to fill Gideon in on what happened. Gideon was not happy about the building's collapse.
Anyway, it was decided to split up and try and learn where the Sewer Rats might have gone - now that their current headquarters was a rubbish pile in a basement. Gideon and Aerwyn would canvas the riverside buildings, talking to animals and learning where the giant rats are coming from. Wolfram and Saphie head on over to the Silver Serpents to see what they might know while Sir Thabo and Duncan are tasked with approaching the town watch.
Gideon and Aerwyn learn little - there are giant rats everywhere, so much that the homeless people are killing and eating them. Wolfram and Saphie talk to Draven Silverhair, learning that Mika's accomplice, Thomas, has been found. Mika is still missing. The half-elven Silver Serpent added that it was known the Sewer Rats had a warehouse down near the riverfront that they use to store and move smuggled goods.
Duncan appeared at the precinct house with coffee and pastries. Talking to Chester and Cleona, Duncan and Sir Thabo learn that the Rats are bringing in a drug known as Demon Blood - a drug that gives the user an euphoric feeling and enhanced strength.
Time is growing short - we need to find Mika. It was said that if someone kills a loved one under the light of a full moon - the curse of lycanthorpy becomes permanent. And tonight is the second night of the full moon. The fight between Mika and Edgar Redbeard has become a blood issue.
So, we decided to go check out the warehouse lead. Late afternoon, becoming evening, we set up a watch in a nearby cafe while Wolfram and Gideon go scouting the warehouse. It was obvious what the building was used for - rowboats entered the warehouse with cargos of smuggled goods while city officials came and went, collecting bribes to ignore the affair.
After the watch shift change, we made our move. Wolfram unlocked the front door and opened it. He had failed to check for alarms because a wire from the door rang a bell. In the gloom of the warehouse, we could make out humans and half-orcs with crossbows firing at us. The fight began. Then a door opened in the warehouse and two halfling/wererats ran out and joined the melee.
When it was over, we questioned one of the humans we had knocked out, He told us the Mika had been killed on the orders of the Queen Rat. When the halfling/wererat Willow bit him, there was a chance that Mika had gotten the wererat curse - and the Queen Rat would not allow her halfings to turn everyone into wererats.
Our trail led back down into the sewers. The human we questioned had said that the Queen Rats was somewhere below. Wolfram removed a trap from the first rung of a ladder and we descended into the depths.
