The sun beat on Port Nyranzaru, turning the sea into a glistening mirror that reflected the heat into the city. In the Glistening Tankard, the barkeep watched his few customers nurse their drinks while listlessly wiping out a glass.
“Ah yes,” he replied to the inquiry. “The tabaxi. I remember her. She came in a few weeks ago with the other tabaxi. Came from far away, she told us. All the rest of the tabaxi took ship to the Sword Coast but she stayed behind.” The barkeep put a marginally clean glass on the counter and picked up another. “She had one of those really weird names… Oblate, Obscure, Ob-something. Can you recall it, Ferkelmeyer?”
The customer at the end of the bar put down his drink. “Obsidian Sun.” He raised his glass and gestured, hoping for a refill.
“Obsidian Sun,” the barkeeper continued. “That was it. She asked us to call her, ‘Sunny’. Sunny’s been in and out of here a few times, always with some tale of getting into trouble. I mean not the kind of trouble that comes with robbing and stealing, but being in places she shouldn’t be and picking up things that she wasn’t supposed to.”
“She’s not a bad sort, that Sunny. Swears by the Cat Lord which is supposed to be their deity or something. Even has the holy symbol that shows she’s a cleric to this god or being. Cured one of my patrons when he came in with a busted head. But she has no…. self-control. She always sticking her nose into other people’s business.”
The barkeep raised his glass and inspected it before setting it aside with the others. “I heard that the Thayans have been looking for her. Something about breaking into their enclave. I hear tell that she was discovered in the quarters of their wizards and before the Red Wizards could react, she was over their palisade and gone. Whatever it is, the Thayans haven’t told the Flaming Fist yet.
The barkeep paused and taking a pitcher over to Ferkelmeyer, refilled his glass. “If you are looking for her - and not for the Thayans – she’s a bit shorter than the other tabaxi, about 6 feet tall. Jaguar spotted fur, tail and claws. Syndra Silvane knows a bit more about her. Rumor is that Syndra found her a flop to stay at. I think it’d be good for Syndra and Sunny too if that tabaxi were to leave town for a bit.”
