In the hallowed glade in the Verdant Halls of Slaughter Forest, we had several choices. The most interesting one was following up rumors of a Holy Avenger hidden in the Far Realm Cyst. To begin, Sunny cast Divination to learn how to begin looking. The Catlord answered with the message that we needed to talk to the smallest pig in the Swine Runs. With this cryptic information, we used the key to travel to the Blood Pens.
A dark and dead place, it had walls of wicked thorns and gardening zombies. Heading northward, we came across a Red Wizard named Myla. She was a transmuter, exiled here by Szass Tam and was willing to work with us to bring him down. When we spoke of the smallest pig, she thought of a halfling adventurer that had been turned into a pig. Myla sent a minion named Teffiry to go and find the pig while she cast Rary’s Telepathic Bond on Sunny. This would allow her to communicate with us once we entered the Doom Vault.
Teffiry returned with a small, dirty pig. Myla reversed the spell and the pig became a small dirty halfling. He’s quite mad and fanatical about serving his death god – but willing to show us the way to the Far Realm Cyst. A blood sacrifice of a hog opened the gateway to the Cyst. The halfling’s cruelty in the hog’s death made Sunny uneasy.
Stepping in the Far Realm Cyst, we were in caves, marked by holes in all the rocky walls. From each of the holes, a pair of eyes watched us. Then halfling wanted to know why we entered this area. When Elathrion told him, the halfling demanded the Holy Avenger so he could destroy it. We refused, he attacked and we killed him.
Entering the next chamber in the caves, we encounter an abboleth trapped in a ball of slimy water. The abberration served the Red Wizards as a font of arcane knowledge. It just wanted to leave. But we did learn some information about the Cyst from it. It warned us about a floating eye and the master of this vault, hidden in a room of slaves.
In another chamber, we find a eye tyrant, floating ten feet in a room with green stone walls. Aalyea jumped to attack, drawing a eye beam attack. Finally we kill it. The eyes in the walls fade out. We recovered a black key to the Temple of Extraction.
We continued our exploration of the vault, coming across a room of chained slaves. Kelric cast sleep on the slaves, putting them all to sleep except for one. That slave’s skin peeled open, revealing a foggy dark creature. The creature began to cast a spell when we piled onto it, killing it.
Entering the tunnels behind the ‘death slaad’, we hear faint gibbering. Turning a corner we found six gibbering mouthers around a stone plinth. On the plinth was a sword. None of us were affected by the madness spewing forth from the gibbering mouthers so we dispatched them. Then Elathrion approached the plinth and took up the Holy Avenger.
Our next step will be the Temples of Extraction. Opening the black gate, we are transported to a vault of darkness and cold. A Red Wizard and three yetis were standing guard at the gate. We overwhelmed and killed them. Returning to the Far Realm Cyst, we decided to make camp and rest for a full eight hours.
