My plan is to run the 5e module Mines of Phandelver which will cover character progression from lvl 1 to 5 and then switch to a home game. Expect to level quickly as I will be running the module as is with a few changes to move the setting to Eberron and to create a few story threads for the home game afterwards. Once the game transitions to a home game, the party can expect the slower level progression we are all accustomed too.
The game will begin in Nymm (June) of 998 YK in the fort town of Sterngate (population 800) on the border of Breland and Darguun. This is 5 years since the Day of Mourning and 3 years since the signing of the Treaty of Thronehold. Sterngate guards the Brelish side of the Marguul Pass and is the main overland route into Darguun from Western side of Khorvaire. It is a minor trade hub with finished goods and food stuffs heading into Darguun, most going to either the Gathering Stone or the capital of Rhukkaan Draal. Timber, hides, and raw ores tend to leave Darguun and flow north via House Orien caravans. Sterngate is a terminus for the lightning rail and most trade leaving Darguun will continue northwards towards New Cyre and Starilaskur. The fort of Sterngate is responsible for patrolling the base of the Seawall Mountains from the border of Zilargo to the south all the way to New Cyre 250 miles to the North.
Most people will know that Darguun used to be part of Cyre and was conquered 35 years ago when a large contingent of non-human Cyran mercenaries led by High Chief Haruuc Sharaat'kor annexed the region. Darguun was not consumed by the mists during the Day of Mourning and was recognized as a nation during the Treaty of Thronehold. King Haruuc is getting on in years and has not chosen a successor to his crown. Many nations worry Darguun will fall into chaos when Haruuc dies. Haruuc has tried hard since the signing of the Treaty to change the more chaotic ways of his people and to make Darguun safe for those who travel through his lands. He has problems with war-chiefs moving to the fringe of his territory and raiding into Breland and violating the safe passage his banners provide to those traveling throughout Darguun. While patrols do move through the Seawall Mountain passes and along the major trade routes, there are not enough loyal troops to prevent occasional banditry.
Phandelver is a small community (population 120) half a days ride into Darguun and resides at the Southern end of a side canyon within the Marguul Pass. As a show of tolerance for non-goblinoids and an experiment in commerce King Haruuc has allowed Phandelver to remain and has agreed to waive 3 years of taxes to allow the town to establish itself.
Most of the module will take place in the mountains and forests around Phandelver on the Darguun side of the border and will involve helping the community while also exploring the Cyran ruins left from the formation of Darguun 35 years ago. At then end of the module, expect the campaign to move into Breland for the early part of the home game and to switch to a more city oriented campaign. If people wish to retire characters in Phandelver instead of moving on to Breland and begin new 5th level characters after the module, the retired characters will become prominent members of the region and can aid in finishing any threads that are not resolved by the module.
Characters will be built on 28 points with max hit points for first level, high average for all future levels.
