Inga Torvald
Inga is a tall, broad woman with braided platinum-blonde hair and ice-blue eyes. She is dressed in home-spun woolens, leather calf-boots and bear-skin cloak on her back. On her back is a hulking great axe whose scars, nicks and chips shows signs of many fights. At her belt are various pouches and several hand axes. She is often drunk when there is alcohol, a morose, silent drunk.
She sits alone, rarely speaking, haunted by some memory. Approaching her, she looks up. At the mention of some task involving battle, her expression begins to lighten up. Inga only comes alive at times of battle, throwing herself into melee with a reckless abandonment.
In talking to her, you will have to ply her with lots of drink to get her to loosen up. Inga will start by telling you of her family. Pappa Torvald was fairly wealthy in the tiny fishing village outside of Luskan; he actually owned his small fishing boat. With Inga’s uncles and cousins, they harvested the fish of the Sea of Moving Ice. Inga’s mother sold the catch in the markets of Luskan, repaired the fishing nets, oversaw the village’s affairs, and raised Inga’s two younger brothers.
Inga grew up on fishing boats along with her twin sister, Sighild. When they turned 16, Inga and her sister decided to leave the fishing village behind and go viking as so many had done before. The two joined the crew of the Dusk Rose and sailed out of Luskan.
The Dusk Rose never returned from that trip. The only clue as to what happened was a battered launch with the name, Dusk Rose, found on the ice-encrusted banks of Shaengarne River, near Ironmaster. Inga turned up in Bryn Shander, half-frozen. She does not speak of her time on the Dusk Rose nor what happened to her and her twin sister. She seeks only to forget – either with drink or in the heat of battle.
She has now been in Ten-Towns for about two years, living on what she can earn from side jobs, living in common rooms and barns, trying to forget.
