Welcome to the Island
After returning to the surf-side encampment from visiting the village of undead serpent men, we decided to rest. In the morning, we would get into our boats and attempt to search the island from the sea.
Rowing hour after hour, we made slow progress. There was a short break at lunchtime, followed by more rowing until it’s time to make a camp for the evening.
Our first evening is interrupted by a herd of compys (small dinosaurs). We drive them off but lost Pickles, the ship’s cook. In the morning, we bury Pickles at sea before continuing our journey.
A few days later, while pulling out boats up onto the shore, Tessa see a humanoid body floating in the lagoon. Three Rivers tries to retrieve the body with a gaff hook when the body drops its illusion and b\turns back into some type of sea hag. Six more zombies, both formerly humans and lizardfolk, rise out of the water where they had been hiding. A short and nasty fight ended with the hags and her allies destroyed.
The following day, we round the headland and turned north. We continued rowing our way northerly through the next few days. On the seventh day, around the middle of the day, we glimpsed our first signs of civilization – a fifty foot wall of stone stretching inland. The wall, built of massive stone boulders, had huge towers lining it. Each tower was a hundred foot square.
Close by, there was a village, only about 250 feet from the wall. The huts making up the village were pretty big and rested on slits. The village was protected by a series of tar pits surrounding it.
Coming closer, it appeared that many of the inhabitants of the village were lizard folk. We pulled our rowboats near a group of lizard folk warriors. They watched us carefully while one of their number scampered off to the top of the village pyramid. The leader of the warriors gestured and we followed them to the pyramid. As we walked, we spotted the other inhabitants of the village – humans, elves and dwarves. The humans were a combination of natives and people from Mystera.
At the top of the pyramid, we met with the village leaders. One activated a speaking stone which allowed us to understand all of them. A female lizardfolk stood from her chair and welcomed us to the village of Turtoa. She explained that the island moved through the planes and places, heralded by the storms that destroyed the Tigershark. No one understood how it moved but the island was moved by something in the center of the island.
