Pirates at the Gates
Time passes. We become somewhat familiar with the lizard folk language. We also learn that there are seven villages of lizard folk in the general region, three of them on outlying islands. Some of us take on duties in the village, others lie back, studying the tomes recovered from the shipwreck. The days pass, one after the other.
Two weeks after we arrived in the village, Three Rivers is on patrol on the Western Shore. He is with a small group, headed out to relieve another squad in the area when they discover the other squad has been destroyed. Their attackers were pirates. Three Rivers headed back to the village to warn it.
At the same time, Antor, who had been keeping a watch near the main gate in the wall, spotted something big moving through the jungle. He raises the alarm.
Tessa, hearing the drums beating, followed the others to the main gate. She finds pirates fighting with the village guards on our side of the wall while Devon yells that a pirate mounted on a Tyrannosaurus Rex was approaching the gate from the jungle side.
With our help, the village guards were able to defeat the pirates. We killed the Tyrannosaurus Rex rider and drove off the dinosaur. Questioning a survivor, we learned that the pirates had landed their boats on a beach just south of the wall and traveled along the wall to reach the main gate.
We followed their tracks to the beach where we discovered six pirates guarding a small fleet of canoes and a catamaran. We quickly took them down. Again, we questioned one of them and learned that they had a spy in the village. The spy was missing two fingers on one hand and spoke to the pirate captain through a speaking stone.
When we finished talking to our prisoner, lizard folk showed up and helped us bring the canoes and the catamaran to the village.
By making a quiet inquiry around the village and searching through belongings, we unmasked the spy in our long house. Cornering him, we took him to the village leaders. He spoke of the pirate captain, a Captain Darkskull, and how he forced him to betray the village. We left his fate in the hands of the village elders.
Eight weeks later, feeling comfortable in the lizard folk – and in Tessa’s case, bored – we decided to head out and do some exploring. It was decided that the nearby ruins would be good start.
