Welcome to the Vile Marshes
Before we depart on a sailing vessel to Zarash’ak. Torbrand got a pouch to deliver for his House. The Plate Mail marked with the sigil of House Kundarak was placed in the Kundarak vaults.
The ship going to the Shadow Marshes was a House Lyrandar barque named Manshulu – the journey will take seven days. Three days later, we leave the Dagger River and sail onto the open sea.
Our journey was interrupted once when the barque sailed into a vast patch of seaweed – two large octopuses attached themselves to the side of the ship and attempted to snatch sailors and hurl them into the water for later eating. Goran kills one of the octopuses and we drive off the other one.
The most dangerous part of our journey came as our barque sailed up the unnamed river in the Vile Marshes to Zarash’ak. As we travelled through an endless field of watery grasslands and reed, a troll covered in seeping sores climbed on board the Manshulu and tried to grab a sailor. Kadrin launched himself at the aberration. The rest of us followed with Kara managing to finish it off.
Arriving at Zarash’ak. We headed to the Deep Keg, an inn that had been recommended to us. After settling in, we began to collect intel in the common room. The waitress, Nika, told us about a recent discovery of a Drakaani ruin up northly. There are also rumors about a goblin, X____________ who disappeared from Sharn with a monthly payroll. He’s said to have discovered something in the depths of the city – and now he’s using the money to search for something in the marshes. The something is related to a hobgoblin general that gave something to the daelkyr. Trouble had difficulty understanding what it was all about.
Another odd story we heard in the common room was about a human named Darro who’s looking for an adventuring group very much like ours. Asking around, we learned where Darro lives. It was fairly late at night but we decided that we would find Darro.
In a small hut on the outskirts of Zarash’ak, we found him. He had been tasked by his local Gatekeeper druid to locate us and bring him to his village. The Gatekeeper druid had foreseen out arrival in a dream. It took Darro five days to get to Zarash’ak. We decided to leave with Darro in the morning.
Darro led us to a pier where his flatboat was tied up. Putting our supplies on board, we set out into the marshes. At evening, Darro found us a campsite at the site of a ruined Drakaani tower. We had already killed two manticores that were threatening a group of harvesters.
The next day, we traveled though an area controlled by an old crocodile known as ‘Thousand Tooth’. As we poled across the water, we spotted a dead crocodile and at the same time, four rows of bubbles coming toward us. The killers of ‘Thousand Tooth’ were four chuuls that wanted to kill us as well. After we kicked them around and some stabbing, we dispatched them. An hour later, we made camp on a small hillock around the remains of an old stone wall.
The third day was uneventful. That evening in our camp, Kadrin and Kara heard the voices of someone struggling to stay alive. Going out to investigate, they discovered creatures mimicking the sounds of victims to draw more prey into their trap. The creatures were run down and killed before we returned to our campfire.
