After the Rains Stopped
Two months after passed after our last trip; it’s the rainy season so any travel has been curtailed. But once the rainy season had ended, we planned to travel up the west side of the island and see the serpent ruins. Varia Knightree will accompany us – she had lost a magical mask in those ruins the last time she was in the area.
On the first day the heavy rains had ended, we set out. We traveled along the path to the village’s tar pits. The route was well traveled and free of most large predators – except for the herd of raptors we had to chase off.
The next day’s journey was interrupted by a herd of iguanodons being chased by a large predator. We threw up a series of obstacles, allowing us to avoid them. Evening found us at another one of the natives’ redoubts.
Morning found us leaving the trail and heading across the open jungle. Our journey brought us into a vast swampy area. While skirting a deeper pond, we noticed several dimetrodan sails breaking the water’s surface. They rushed at us. We killed several and drove off the rest. Following Three River’s lead, we left the swampy ground. Crossing a clearing, he pointed out several carnivorous plants. Spotting us at the same time, they threw out a cloud of spores and began moving toward us. We destroyed them.
That evening, Three Rivers found us a protected campsite and we settled down for a night’s rest.
