The Deep Ones Threat
It’s another day and half to Tanaroa – this journey back from the Serpentmen ruins seems to take forever. The boredom of traveling through the jungles was interrupted on by a group of psychic lizards that thought they could ambush us. An illusion spell from Talos broke their surprise attack and before they could circle around to hit us again, we killed them all.
Evening found us approaching a waystation built along the trail. It’s occupied by a woman and a man that we don’t recognize as being from the village. One of the three we rescued earlier mentioned that they resemble the traders that came to the pirate camp to trade for slaves. Confronting the two, they shifted forms in to Deep Ones and told us they bought slaves for their master, the Dweller in the Deeps.
Although Tessa and Marissa were stunned most of the fight, the rest of the party made short work of the aboleths’ minions.
From their bodies, we recovered a message pearl that told the two to recover the rod from Three Rivers and to retrieve Kroc of the Raptor clan since Kroc has left the collective.
Upon our return to Tanaroa, Three Rivers used the moment to confront Kroc. Kroc was uneasy, seeing the rod that Three Rivers bore and walked off. In a secluded part of the village, he turned toward us and began to explain. He started by shifting in to a Deep One before telling us that since the storm that brought us, he no longer felt the pressure of the collective. Kroc added that he had been captured and taken deep into the sea to see the Dweller in the Deeps who changed him in a Deep One. Since the storm, he has been avoiding the sea and things that might return him to the control of the aboleth.
After discussing it with him, we decided that it was best if he were to go before the council of Tanaroa. We would be with him and lend him our strength. The council was to meet the next day to hear our report.
That evening, we joined the party. The next morning, we joined the council with Kroc. We brought everyone up to date on the slaves and the pirates on the eastern shore. Kroc explained his situation and shifted into his Deep One form. The council was a bit surprised but agreed that Kroc could stay within the village. As for the pirate camp, they decided to act against the slavers. Working with the three freed people we rescued, we began to lay plans for our attack.
