The current date is early in May, 1819. Characters should be level 4, based on their experiences with the horrors of the prison hulk, HMS Caraculla and the affair at Charwell House.
The social scene in London is slowly sliding to an end. The Regent, Prince George, and his court are about to leave town for their summer retreat in Brighton. Parliament is also about to break for the summer – the Amendment to the Slave Trade Act of 1811 has been delayed further after Sir John Lubbock blocked the third reading of the bill in the House of Commons. It seems that passage of the bill is unlikely before Parliament rises. Mr Wilberforce and Lord Brougham have protested at the delay.
The dwarven-backed London-Dover railway was opened for service. Two ‘Grasshopper’ type locomotives are running trains of 5 to 8 stage wagons from Southwark to Dover. A protest has been filed in the House of Lords by the elven Lord Greenleaf, warning against binding this green land with bands of iron.
Rumors about the Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Caroline, have been going around London. They state that the wife of the Regent has been living with an Italian lover in Europe. In spite of the rumors, the princess continues to be popular with the people. Prince George continues to study means to divorce her.
The weather has been fine with occasional rain showers from the north. It is still cooler than average – a holdover from the summer of 1816 when volcanic ash from Mt. Tambora covered the sky. The characters are returning from a guild quest in Kent. The local officials have asked the Unicorn Club’s help in learning why undead things have been spilling from village well in Grafty Green. It is early in the evening when the characters step off their boat and head toward the Unicorn Club.
