Inspiration, part II
It was in the dining room of the Unicorn Club that Queen Titania gave her advice to the party about entering the Feywild. She warned them about the time dilation – that the longer you are in the Feywild, the more time passes in the real world. She told them that they would need to use the same Fey gate they entered the Feywild in – because the gates are linked to different places in the world; she herself would hold the gate open for their time in the Feywild.
Behind Claridge’s Hotel in a copse of trees – Queen Titania opened the Fey gate. The party jumped through to find themselves in a sunset lit scene with huge trees and a slowly flowing river in the distance. Suddenly, a cry for help reached their ears.
After some debate, they decided to find out what was happening. In a small clearing, they found five large hounds worrying at someone hiding between fallen logs. The hunt was overseen by a large, cruel huntaur – a disturbing mixture of man and a wolf’s body. The naked grey-skinned creature warned them off – but the party decided to bring a stop to their hunt.
After being rescued, the rabbit folk hiding in the logs introduced himself as Audil Whitetail. He then promised to guide them to Deadmen’s Hill. It was a few hours from here. But first, he needed to collect some flowers from Old Ender’s grove. They were needed for a wedding in the rabbit folk village.
At Old Ender’s grove, the party found the glowing white flowers known as the Starlight flowers. But the grove was patrolled by dryads, corrupted by the foul smelling water seeping in from some where.
The party killed the corrupted dryads and got the Starlight flowers.
At the rabbit folk village, preparations for the wedding were well under way. As the two rabbits gathered before the mayor of the village, a sudden roar drew everyone’s attention. The treant of Old Ender’s grove had come, enraged at some one entering his grove. He swatted the rabbits aside as he tore into the wedding. Following in his footsteps were smaller leaf blights that were killing the stunned rabbit folk.
The party jumped into action, wiping away the leaf blights before destroying the treant. He had been corrupted by more of that foul water.
A hurried wedding was held that afternoon before the party headed out to Deadmen’s Hill. Their passage was interrupted briefly by forces of the Queen of Air and Darkness. After Smythe showed them the metal enameled leaf they received from Queen Mab, the general let them go on after giving them some extra healing potions.
Their path soon left the road and headed across a meadow, past a windmill. The party became concerned about the people in the windmill when they noticed the small animals impaled on the fence. Inside, they found the windmill was being used to pump befouled water out of a dimension and pour it on the surrounding lands. Percy figured out how to disengage the pumps and Krenko pulled on the levers. Then they noticed that the three green hags that had set up the device had shown up. In a short battle, one hag was taken out before the coven could do much damage. The other two were quickly killed. With the hags dead, Percy was able to return the windmill to draining the land of excess water.
Crossing the river, it took another hour to arrive at Deadmen’s Hill. The top of the hill had been cleared of wood and tracks showed where more wood cutting was going on. There was a castle with tumbled down curtain walls and a great hall. The dungeon keep was crowned with three long unused gibbets. Half of the dungeon keep had fallen into the river below. Thick oily smoke rose from a chimney next to the great hall.
Sneaking into the great hall, the party found a large number of undead – vampire nulls – working at furnaces and blowing glass into the glassware jars used by Xyla Loveday. The vampire nulls had no faces except for a maw like a lamprey eel.
The party decided to sneak around the vampire nulls and up the stairway to the solar. In the solar, they found Lord Kamer and two of his vampire underlings. After dispatching the three and staking their bodies in their coffins, the party found a letter to Lord Kamer from a Lord Blackthorne, noting their recent successes and telling Lord Kamer that he’s sending a Sir Gorden Wildcliffe to update their plans and bring back more empty glassware jars. They also found three Bags of Holding filled with filled, glowing glassware jars.
Returning quickly the way they had come, the party gathered at the Unicorn Club to update Queen Titania on their progress. Several of the party – like Percy – know who Sir Gorden Wildcliffe is but no one knew anything about a Lord Blackthorne.
