Northeast to the Pirate Port
It was a month later that we were ready to deal with the slaver-pirates on the northeastern shore. Tessa had used the time to learn some new spells while the others honed their skills. The village council would help us by providing us with forty additional lizard folk warriors under the leadership of the lizard folk captain, Aseid.
Accompanied by the canoes of our lizard folk forces, we boarded our launch and set out on our journey. The trip would take us about three days. At evening each night, we would draw the canoes and our launch out of the water, make camp, set several lizard folk as watch and rest for the night. Our journey was interrupted only once by the sighting of a dangerous sea dinosaur in the shallows; we avoided the danger by portaging our boats around the shallows.
The third day, Tessa woke to hear some excitement from the lizard folk warriors. The night watch reported finding strange footprints in the sand near our camp. The unknown creature had come out of the water, watched our camp for a while and retreated in the water, stepping into its footprints.
Shortly before coming upon the pirate port, we put in at a secluded cove and drew the boats into the treeline. Leaving the boats well hidden, we climbed into the hills overlooking the pirates’ camp. It was nothing much to look at – several crude shelters around a common fire. Broken ship wrecks in the water provided more shelter as well as prisons for the slaves. One ship in better shape was being fixed.
The lizard folk leader, Aseid, mentions that the officers of the pirates had their quarters in a near by cave. We decided to wait for night before going into action.
After quickly taking out the guards in front of the cave opening, we entered the cave. Although of natural origins, the cave showed signs of being carved to smooth the floor and widen the passages. Illumination was provided by scones of continual light flames.
We moved deeper into the cave before pausing at a fork in the passage. The left branch led into a chamber with two doors. One door led to a toilet, the other into a bedchamber where we found the half-ogre, Akra and his lieutenant, a half-elf in bed together – along with a pair of smaller guard dinosaurs. Three Rivers charmed one of the guard dinosaurs, Marissa killed the half-ogre and then his lover, the half-elf, a moment later. Tessa then cast her ‘Identify’ spell to sort out what might be of use later.
Returning to the fork in the passage, we found the scarred lizard folk cleric addressing his two guards in a chamber down the right branch. After a short fight, we took them down and looted a very nice mace for our Tortle cleric. A bit further down, we found the last of the pirate’s leaders, a human mage. He barely had a chance to react before he went down.
Now that the pirates’ leaders had been taken out – we were ready to deal with the forty odd pirates in the camp.
