The Pirates of the Cove
Having toppled the leaders of the pirate gang in the cave, our next goal was to secure the wrecked ship that the pirates were using to hold their prisoners. Once we’ve freed the prisoners, we are free to take on the remaining slavers. Three Rivers began by casting Water Walking on all of us. Tessa created a fog cloud to hide our approach.
Arriving at the hulk from the seaward side, we boarded the ship and dispatched the three guards playing cards at the broken mast. We then headed aft to the officers’ cabins where we found more pirates lying at ease around a hookah. Having killed them, Talos slid the still-smoking hookah in to his bag of holding.
There was a stairway leading down into the bowels of the ship. We climbed down it and went forward until we were stopped by a barred oak door. Opening the door, we found a dozen prisoners shackled to the walls. In freeing them, they told us about more prisoners in the bows of the hulk. The sick prisoners had been separated from the others and moved forward to recover or die.
Going forward, we found another half-dozen prisoners sick with dysentery. We freed them and promised to return to them once the camp had been cleared. Three Rivers and Talos would heal them of the disease.
From the first set of prisoners, we also learned of a few prisoners that had been removed from the hulk and placed on shore before they were to be handled over to the fishmen for sacrifice. We returned to the main deck of the hulk and looked over at the shore.
On the beach were several wreck, some stripped down to their ribs and frames. Two camp fires burned brightly while pirates around them drank and cursed. A single crude structure held the sacrificial prisoners.
Walking across the water, we attacked the pirates around one of the campfires. Tessa opened with her first fireball, dropping about half of them. While Three Rivers, Devon, Antor and Marissa kept the first set of surviving pirates busy, Tessa put her second fireball on the pirates around the other camp fire. As they came running to join the pirates of the first campfire, Talos dropped a Hypnotic Pattern on them, leaving about half, confused and wandering.
After mopping up the pirates, we approached the crude structure. Marissa made short work of the locks on the door. Inside, we found four prisoners shackled to the walls. After freeing them, they told us that the fishmen would be there around noon the next day. Having cleared out the pirates and secured all the prisoners, we decided to call in our lizard folk allies and break for the evening. Three Rivers and Talos cast spells to cure the dysentery from the sick.
The next morning, we took a quick survey of the single ship being repaired by the pirates. It was almost ready for sea but still needed work on the standing rigging and aboard. A few days should complete the work. But first, we have to deal with the fishmen that were sacrificing people. They were to arrive at noon.
