The Arrival of the Sahuagin
On the beach in the pirates’ camp, we prepared for the arrival of the Sahuagin. Several of the dead pirates were cleaned up and placed in the pirates’ hut as if they were slaves to be sold; we dressed ourselves in the cleanest of the pirates’ clothes and Tessa took the precaution of casting Water Breathing in case the Sahuagin pulled any of us into the sea. Our lizard folk allies were told to hide themselves and once the fight had begun, to prevent any of the Sahuagin from escaping to the sea.
Out on the water, a massive shark fin appeared – a Megalodon by the size. Then rising out of the sea came eight Sahuagin warriors escorting a four armed Sahuagin Baron and a Sahuagin priestess wearing a gown made of fishing nets. The priestess wanted to know where the half-ogre was. Talos spoke for us, mentioning the half-ogre was hunting more slaves and invited the Sahuagin to inspect the ones in the hut.
Four of the Sahuagin warriors and the priestess went into the hut. The dead pirates, who had been raised as zombies by Devon, attacked. At the same time, Tessa threw a fireball at the four remaining Sahuagin warriors and the Baron. Antor jumped in to attack, joined by Marissa. Tessa got hit hard by a spell from the priestess, forcing her to Misty Step behind cover.
By the time she stepped out again, the zombies in the hut had taken out the Sahuagin warriors, the rest of the Sahuagin warriors on the beach, weakened by the fireballs, had fallen to Marissa’s attacks and both the priestess and the Baron were down. Questioning one of the wounded Sahuagin warriors, we learned that they were collecting slaves for the great sacrifice to their shark god, Sekolah. Talos spoke to their Megalodon and learned that the Sahuagin would hold their sacrifice in a location a half days’s journey from this beach. We also learned that the Sahuagin had many more prisoners, locked in air bubbles, ready to be offered to Sekolah.
We needed to rescue those prisoners. Taking a few hours to get ready, we set off to travel underwater to the Sahuagin site. Our directions were taken from the Sahuagin prisoner. Talos traveled on his hunter shark that he summoned. Three Rivers had befriended the Megalodon.
We would navigate to the Sahuagin site through landmarks. At the first landmark, we spotted the wreckage of a warship. Taking a short respite from our journey, we searched the wreck, turning up a few valuable items. Then we continued swimming. It would be dark by the time we arrived at the sacrificial site.
At the second landmark, we were to turn and head to the Sahuagin site. But we stopped by the glimpse of a large coppery sphere lying on the ocean floor. It turned out to be a magical device for traveling underwater. Tessa took the time to use Identify to learn the bathyscaphe’s powers and its activation word. Speaking the word, she passed inside where it was warm and dry. Once inside, we found a couch, seats and a pedestal. There was a body on the floor – it had a metal hand. Nearby lay a blunderbuss.
After removing the body, Tessa sat herself at the pedestal and took control. Steering the bathyscaphe, we traveled in comfort close to the Sahuagins’ place. Then we decided to rest before undertaking the assault on the Sahuagin and their terrible god.
