Among the Sahuagin
The next day, we prepare to hit the sahuagin in their hidden temple. We decided to bypass their outer guard posts by using the Megalodon as cover. But when we tried to enter the caves of the temple, the sahuagin saw us. Killing the four guards, we let Marissa open the double doors. Inside, four more sahuagin guards and a pair of reef sharks were waiting for us. After dispatching them, Devon raised some of the guards and the reef sharks as zombies. With the zombies in the lead, we continued deeper into the temple.
In the center of the temple, we found a large chamber with various passages leading deeper into the temple complex. The chamber was dominated by a very large statue of Sekolah, glittering with gold. A quick consideration was given to putting the statue in our bags but it was too large and we would take too much time to break it up into smaller pieces.
We started clearing out the complex. The first passage led to a priests’ room and a barracks. We fought a pair of well equipped sahuagin priests and then a room full of sahuagin guards. One of the priests tried to transform himself into a gigantic octopus – this did not save him.
A second passage took us into a area with many barred doors. Behind one, we found a sea elf. The sea elf told us that he was the lone survivor of a sea elven patrol. We asked him if he wanted to join us or escape on his own. He grabbed a spear and joined us.
A third passage brought us to a set of sturdy double doors. Marissa was unable to unlock these so Talos used Thunderwave to shatter the doors. Waiting for us behind the broken doors was the high priestess. Talos began by entangling her. Tessa followed up by casting Fireball into the room and then everyone piled into her. She didn’t last very long.
There were two smaller corridors leading from the central chamber. One led to the room occupied by the leader of the sahuagin guards –a sahuagin Baron with his two sahuagin guards. After killing him, we collected his head. The other led to another barracks room with eight sahuagin guards. Talos cast Hypnotic Pattern on the guards which left them them helpless against our attacks.
Having cleared the temple complex, we found no sign of the prisoners we had come to free. Three Rivers used a spell to talk to a passing fish and learn where there might be pockets of air. The fish guided us past any remaining sahuagin and showed us a cavern where the prisoners were being kept. The cavern was being guarded by a giant octopus. Three Rivers charmed it to be a friend.
With our new friend watching the waters, we climbed into the cavern with the prisoners. The seventeen prisoners were happy to see us. Tess began casting Water Breathing on the prisoners to allow them to leave the cavern while the others took a short rest. Having completed two castings of Water Breathing, we used the octopus’ inky cloud to shield us while we made our escape.
Once back in our bathyscaphe, we returned to the pirates’ cove. Tessa used the time to cast Detect Magic and Identify the items we had looted from the sahuagin.
