Arrival in Saltmarsh
There were five of us and two additional passengers on the coach from Niole Dra through Gradsul to Saltmarsh. Einar of Hool Hall, son of a minor noble, Connor, a fighting man, Passim Gaz - a man with an arcane bent, Revandrous(?), a small half-elven man with a scholarly look, skilled in magic, and myself, Rissa, riding cheaply on the top with the luggage. Also accompanying us where Gellan Primewater – an old gentlemen and Eliander Fireborn, a big man with a military bearing.
It was mid summer and we were rolling along, passing through more bottom lands, a mixture of swamp lands, flooded fields and low trees. It’s another hour of travel before we would arrive at the next way station and rest for the night.
Up ahead, a fallen tree blocked the road. The driver began to slow his horses as Connor warned us that this was a common tactic used by bandits. Then three men made themselves known by stepping out from the fallen tree. Three more men with crossbows showed up on our flank and a fourth bowman covered our rear. Revandrous(?) stepped out of the coach and promptly put one group of bandits to sleep.
Connor and Einar take care of another group of bandits. One of the bandits moves behind a tree and whispers to a unseen wizard for help. The wizard steps from the cover of the tree, sees that most of the bandits are out of action, turns and begins to run. Revandrous(?) shouts for his surrender, threatening him if he did not comply.
The bandits were tied up and turned over to Eliander Fireborn who was Saltmarsh’s head of the town guard. We tracked down the bandits’ camp and collect their stuff. An hour later at the way station, Gellan Primewater offered to buy everyone dinner. He’s one of Saltmarsh’s more wealthy individuals. There was talk about recent events in the town but the rumor caught Rissa’s ear is the story of a caravan with enough royal gold to build several naval ships has gone missing in the Hool Marshes. Gellan heard it in the Empty Nest.
A day later, we arrived at the run down city gate of Saltmarsh. After passing the guards and the low, crumbling wall, the coach headed on to the town square where we disembarked. Standing on the Sharkfin Bridge, Gellan Primewater points out his house, built on the docks and asks us all to come to dinner in two days.
We split up, some of us going to the Wicker Goat, others to the Snapping Line. Rissa returns to the Empty Net to the room she had been renting for the last few weeks. While there, she asks around, hoping to learn more of the missing caravan of royal gold. Some one told her that they heard the story from Six Fingered Sal and added that Sal heard it was Wastri worshipers that ambushed the caravan. Rissa also picked up an interesting story that some one or something is going through the trash in Crabbers’ Cove – a poor district north of the town – and that cats have gone missing in the area.
Ken, Mark - please give me corrected spellings of your character's names.
