SPRING IS COMING
Morning in Bryn Shander. Blowhard from Good Mead wants to fight Inga in revenge. Inga confuses him and gets him drunk. He does not disturb our plans to recover the Codicil of White from Auril’s Castle. Next morning, we set out in the spelljammer, headed to Auril’s frozen island.
As we are travelling through heavy clouds, another one of Auril’s rocs tries to attack the spelljammer. While Inga keeps the spelljammer steady, the others rain spells and arrows. The roc grabs Singe and attempts to flee but we bring it down. Singe walks away from the plummeting dead roc by using his boots of Winged Boots.
In ever worse weather – cold winds and heavy snow fall – we leave the spelljammer hovering over Auril’s castle courtyard. Jumping down into a foot or more of snow, we are met with Auril’s welcoming committee – a group of Winter Wolves. As we slaughter them, the doors to her great hall slam shut.
Melandrian uses charges from his Ring of the Ram to blow the doors out of their frames. As we charge inside, six berserkers, part of Auril’s house carls, run up to attack us. Behind them, a woman in white dragon scale mail tries to pincushion us with spells and arrows.
The battle leaves all of them dead but Inga barely standing. We take a moment to treat our injuries and begin heading down stairs to the vault. The vault is guarded by a barbarian with a glowing blue sword. He is pretty tough but we finally kill him. The vault’s doors are blown open with more charges from Melandrian’s Ring of the Ram.
There’s loot and coins and the Codicil of the White. Inga suggests that we leave right away before Auril returns from what she’s doing but before we do, we leave a message on the walls – SPRING IS COMING.
Back in Byrn Shander, we rest and study what we found. The only disturbing thing was that Rinaldo was attacked in the market place by a spell caster that disappeared after the attack. It may have had something to do with the massive bounty on his head by the Arcane Brotherhood…
