Revenge with Air Superiority
It was a cloudy and cold morning as our spelljammer lifted from Bryn Shander and headed north. Armed with the results of our scrying, we were going to punish those that dared kill townsfolk that we had sworn to protect.
As Inga peered though the mists and clouds, the others kept themselves ready – we knew that the red-haired man, the druid worshiping Malar, had a white dragon as an ally. So when we closed in on the squat tower, we weren’t surprised when the white dragon flew up to meet us.
Inga jinked the spelljammer hard while Melandrian and Beatrix fired off their fireball spell; Singe and Rinaldo kept peppering it with arrows. Inga tried to keep the spelljammer out of its icy breath range while allowing those on board access to their weapons and spells.
Under the onslaught of our spells and bows, the badly hurt white dragon turned to flee. Inga brought the spelljammer to chase as Melandrian finally finished the dragon, sending its body crashing into the frozen forest below.
Exhausted ourselves, Inga turned the spelljammer around and we flew back to Bryn Shander to reset and recover. The next day, we would complete our revenge.
It took a few hours from Bryn Shander to the squat tower on the next day. The clouds had lifted and we could see what steps the red-haired druid had taken to defend his tower. The druid of Malar had placed his werewolf guards on the roof with bows. Melandrian and Beatrix cleared the rooftop with a few well placed spells. Then Inga left the spelljammer to hover while we landed on the squat tower’s roof.
Melandrian read a scroll and a Cloudkill spell began to form. He sent the Cloudkill down the steps, killing all those that would oppose us. We followed the Cloudkill down stairs, stepping over the bodies of werewolves.
Rinaldo, protecting our rear, noticed a small finch following us. He quietly informed us. As he did so, the finch turned into a red-haired druid. He started to throw spells at us but we took him down.
When we got to the bottom of the tower, the Cloudkill spell had finished wiping out the defenders. Searching the place, we turned up some loot and the druid’s library. It contained much about Auril that we had been searching Bryn Shander for – he had been stealing books for a long while. Packing everything up, we set fire to the squat tower and left it a burnt out ruin.
Back in Bryn Shander, we could relax and recover. Melandrian took some of the money from the red-haired druid’s treasury and gave it to the families of the townsfolk killed when the red-haired druid tried terrorize the town.
