It Begins – May 5. 2023
Alessa, fleeing for her life, ran up the gangplank of the Dolphin Princess and threw most of her life savings at the purser. Shouts and curses came from the wharf as the ship dropped its mooring ropes and headed out to sea. A slender woman, about 5’ 7” tall, with tanned skin and long black hair, dressed in bright, loose clothing, she looked like a dancer or a musician . On her back was a long-necked lute. She carried all her possessions rolled in a cloth bag.
Also on the ship was Cassandar, a scholar with blond hair and the ease of a man that knew magic. He stood about 5’ 6”. Next to him was an Elven ranger, Talarial, tall at 6’ and accompanied by a pet fox. He also had blond hair and pale skin. Across the ship, leaning on a railing was a young woman, Miranda. Miranda was 5’ 6”, tanned with brown hair and dressed as one of the sailors. She carried a rapier, daggers and looked like she was familiar with their use. Finally, watching the Rodasha port city slide out of sight, was a merchant, Zayd Sedig. Zayd was a tall man, 5’ 11” with a black hair and a neatly trimmed beard.
The Dolphin Princess was scheduled to make several ports of call – our next one was the port of Hisparia. The ship spent a few days there, loading cargo. Alessa made a little pocket money, playing in sailors’ taverns. Then it was time to set sail again.
The following day found the captain worried. The skies to the south turned dark and foreboding. He told us that they would try to avoid it if possible. Then he gave orders to alter course, running before the storm. As the ship set on its new course, he warned us that we would be skirting the Shallow Sea, an area of sea devils and worse.
As the hours passed, the angry skies continued to spread. The captain studied the skies and our wake and confirmed that something was slowing the ship. Sea devils were known to attach anchors to the hulls of ships to bring them to a halt before overwhelming them with their attacks. We were told to be on alert. Then the Dolphin Princess shuddered to a complete stop.
A short time later, the sea devils jumped onto the deck and attacked. We struggled with them for a while before driving them off. Cassandar used magic to breath underwater, jumped in the sea and broke the sea devils’ anchors. When he climbed back on board, the captain gave orders and the Dolphin Princess resumed its passage to Freeport.
