On the Way to the Inverted Tower
The next morning, we left the vault and headed into the jungle on the search for the Inverted Tower. We had chosen the closer of the two locations marked by the dead serpent folk. Our route was not on any established paths so we ended up cutting and hacking our way across the jungle.
Three Rivers and his ankylosaurus parted the heavy undergrowth with the rest of us clearing overhanging brush and underfoot branches. Ir was slow and hot going.
Close to the time when we were about to take our mid-day break – it suddenly got very quiet. The background sounds of insects, birds and frogs faded into silence. Tessa was confused but Three Rivers whirled around and cast Plant Growth on our right. Small humanoids but created from plant material came stumbling out of the grasping growth. Vegepygmies, about a dozen of them, were attacking us. Tessa panicked and threw a Fireball at their leader, burning most of them to a crisp. Three Rivers and Talos finished off the rest. From their corpses, we recovered and destroyed the russet mold they used to create more vegepygmies.
Continuing on, we noticed more and more plants that were rotten or blighted. Three Rivers pulled one up and found that the blight had reached even their roots. He urged us to learn what was causing this massive destruction of the jungle. As we began to push deeper into the blight, lizard folk, undead lizard folk with bits of growing vegetation came shambling at us. We stopped and began picking off the slow vege-zombies. Then the cause of the zombie infestation appeared – a yellow musk creeper crawling along on its roots and spreading its yellow mold. Tessa blew it away with a Acid Orb. But in moments, the yellow musk creeper rose up and spread more yellow mold. A few of us including Tessa breathed it in and fell under its influence. Luckily, Three Rivers cast Produce Flame and threw a handful of fire at it, ending it.
Tired by the experience, we retreated to a rocky outcropping and set up camp for the night.
