A Few More Slavers to Kill
The scene on the beach was horrific; off shore, the slavers’ gallery continued to burn down to the water line; closer, the slavers’ bodies were scattered across the sand. Their tents smoldered in the breeze while their chained slaves wept or stared unseeing into the distance.
We set to work, freeing the slaves from their shackles, arranging to have them fed from supplies left by the slavers, looting the slaver’s bodies and preparing to return to the lizard folk village. One of the more alert slaves stopped us – he had a tale to tell. The high priest, eight sailors, a demonic octopus and about twenty slaves had left the camp and headed into the jungle. Could we also rescue those slaves as well?
We immediately plunged into the jungle undergrowth on the trail of the high priest. The numbers and their large demonic beast left an easy path for us to follow – but they were two days or so ahead of us.
Two days later, we were still on their trail when we spotted a ambush in the bushes. Three sailors accompanied by an undead carnitaur that the high priest had raised were hoping to surprise us. Devon caught sight of their imp which they had been using to spy on us.
Three Rivers attempted to turn the carnitaur but it failed – it rushed up and began to attack our turtle cleric. One of the sailors was a caster – he kept targeting Tessa for spells like Blindness and Paralyzation. Luckily Talos was nearby and able to remove the condition. We managed to finally kill them.
Three Rivers, studying the trail sign, estimated that we come across them within a half-day. We moved on. The day became more overcast as we traveled, turning finally into wind and rain. Three Rivers, drawing on his nature powers, said that the storm was local and unnatural.
Fighting the rain and the lighting, we pushed on. As Three Rivers told us, we came across a make-shift camp centered on a pylon. Four sailors are outside, watching the huddled slaves. The demonic octopus was squatting by the opened door of the pylon.
Breaking out the Dust of Disappearance, Talos scattered it over us, making us invisible. We were able to sneak into the camp, past the four and the demonic octopus and enter the pylon. Once inside, without losing the invisibility, Talos reached out and closed and locked the pylon door. The interior of the pylon was larger than the outside with ourselves, the high priest and a pretty but demonic sailor inside.
Devon began with a lightning bolt but the bolt missed the two, bounced around the inside of the pylon and almost hit us. Tessa had more luck, hitting the pretty boy with a fire bolt. Marissa charged up to the red robed sorcerer and kept him busy while Three Rivers and Devon kept the demonic pretty boy engaged. After a few moments, we managed to kill the high priest and his pretty accompanist.
Peering outside, the demonic octopus, freed from its summoning, tore into the sailors. The slaves were screaming. We watched as the octopus took its revenge and disappeared. When it was gone, we left the pylon, freed the slaves and returned to the lizard folk village.
