Arriving in New Cyre
After an uneventful trip on the Lightning Rail, we arrive in the middle of a dusty plain. Milling around the solitary station building are wagons, coaches and other transports. The actual town of New Cyre is an hour’s journey from the Lightning Rail.
The town is not very interesting when we arrive. A cluster of buildings around a manor house that serves as the Court of New Cyre and temporary seat for Prince Oargev ir’Wynarn. Asking our driver, he mentions that the best inn is the Silver Bell on the outskirts of town. It is twenty miles from a former Breelish fort and seventy-five miles to the Grey Mists of the Mourning. It is literally in the middle of nowhere.
After getting rooms and dinner, we settle down. Torbrand finds a card game and gathers information. He learns that Princess Fiona ir’Wynarn of Breland is engaged to be married to the local prince. She brought, as part of her entourage, Abbot Yochum – an ambassador from Riedra – who is seeking the return of his crystal crown. It seems the good ambassador was robbed of it a few days ago. Price Oargev is offering substantial rewards for anyone bringing back Cyre artifacts from the Mournlands.
The next morning, Trouble, Kadrin and Kaya went to the Adventurer’s Guild to learn more about the Mournlands while Emrys and Torbrand visited the Dragonmark Enclave. At the Adventurer’s Guild, we were warned about the dangers and advised to bring Goodberry Wine as replacement for food and drink. Emrys and Torbrand learned a little bit more about the missing Dragonmarked heirs.
As we were leaving the Adventurer’s Guild, we read a note that the Supply Caravan to the Trading Post inside the Mournlands was leaving soon and looking for guards to protect it. Talking to Master Portly, we agreed to help the caravan on its journey – joining the caravan as it left New Cyre from the east side of town early the next morning. We would use the caravan to mask our arrival at the Trading Post while we were looking into the disappearances of the Dragonmarked heirs.
Early the next morning, Draglin, the half-orc caravan master gave the signal and we were off. The first day journey brought us to Kenrun, the former Breelish calvary fort. The next day, Draglin promised, would see us enter the Grey Mists of Mournland.
