Ikar the Black
We found Ikar the Black in his compound of Karrnathi-based group of mercenaries and salvagers. It was a junkyard of materials stolen from the Mournland’s horrors. Talking to a guard posted at the entrance, she informed us Ikar would be able to help us – for a price,
Ikar the Black was an ash-colored half-orc. He invited us into his camp and listened to our request. When he heard about the camp north of the Trading Post and that they had been kidnapping Dragon-marked heirs, he suddenly became interested in helping us – those people had stiffed him on finding a large Kyber shard.
As we left Ikar the Black’s compound, we decided to shadow the group of warforged and their warforged titan companion as they left heading north. At the last moment, the warforged added a tall, thin man to their party – William Compton, the agent of Gustave Hecate.
We followed them at a distance, using the terrain to mask our presence. As we moved into hilly ground, they must have spotted us since they left two of their smaller scout warforged lying in ambush. The rest of them and the titan warforged were about another hundred feet away, ready to lend their support once the ambush had been sprung.
Torbrand cast a Fireball on the group of warforged, devastating them. Kara and Kadrin hit the hidden ambushers, sending them reeling. Trouble headed past those fights, headed for the titan and got slammed by the huge warforged’s fists. She countered by hitting the titan with a smite delivered through her sword and sending the titan warforged crashing to the ground.
When the dust settled, the warforged were all down and William Compton was our prisoner. Questioning him, we learned that the Lord of Blades was using a portal to the Dark Moon to construct a new civilization for the warforged – one far away from the flesh and blood beings that were so cruel to the warforged. He was using the dragon-marked heirs’ abilities to help build his world on the Dark Moon. Hecate’s role in all this was that he was studying the root causes of the Mournland – his theory was that the Dark Moon had collided with Cyre and become part of the land.
Since we were a half-day’s travel from the Trading Post, we decided to return to the outpost. William Compton was turned over to House Kudarak who was offering a 200 gp bounty on the agent. Then we went back to the inn and rested for the next day.
