With the Mi-go on the Black Moon
No shit – there we were. Standing on a lightless moon, surrounded by identical houses of Giantish construction. We had just come through a strange portal and were looking up at a huge castle, illuminated by a enormous bonfire. Since there was no other clue where to go, we began to walk towards the light.
We had taken a few steps when a mechanical voice came out of the darkness. It said, “Sparkle.” Then a bright beam of light was shone upon us. “Are you escaping?” it asked, referring to Emrys and Torbrand, our dragon-marked party members.
Climbing down from the roof of the Giant house across the street was a War-forged. Since he wasn’t about to attack us, we began to ask questions. It turns out that the War-forged was a one of a group of War-forged that wants all “Breathers” off the Black Moon. Only that way can they build a new society, free of the past. We quickly agreed with him and promised to work with them to remove all the non War-forged from their world, taking them back to Eberron.
The War-forged pointed out the direction we needed to go and where we would find the dragon-marked heirs as well as the hobgoblins and orcs. Chazz also gave us the countersign to “Sparkle”, “Brightly” and told us where Hecate might be found. He warned us that although Hecate was not a War-forged – he also was not a living person. He also mentioned that there was something from the Dreaming Dark imprisoned within the castle – while the War-forged, not dreaming, did not suffer any effects, those that did sleep, were slowly driven mad. There would be no long rests while we are on the Black Moon.
We left Chazz and his squad guarding the portal and headed up the road towards the bonfire. It took longer than we estimated. The road and houses all appeared identical until Emrys found reflective markings pointing back to the portal.
Maybe a half-hour later or so, by Trouble’s estimate, when someone spotted something moving at the edges of our darkvision. Coming a bit closer, we found two Mi-Go talking in a buzzing language. They didn’t seem hostile so we decided to talk to the alien beings. Emrys and Torbrand tried different languages before discovering they spoke Giantish.
The Mi-go were looking for help in clearing a nearby slime pit – they wanted the slimes as food and promised that there was treasure among the slime’s victims. We agreed and headed off to the slime pit. Going to the slime pit brought us deeper into the Giant city – the building were larger and multi-story. When we arrived, we found a large ooze sitting among a giant skeleton, surrounded by smaller oozes. Trouble and Emrys worked their way through the smaller oozes to attack the large ooze while the others took out the smaller oozes. When the oozes had been killed, we collected the giant’s treasure while the Mi-go dragged off the ooze corpses.
Going by Chazz’s instructions, we left the road to the bonfire and went down a side street. Skirting a watch tower, we moved quietly past stables to an area where the War-forged had set up a camp. We counted around 10 to 12 War-forged. Trouble wanted them to stand down if they agreed with Chazz’s group but Torbrand opened with a Fireball. Everyone charged into the fight, dropping most of the War-forged and sending the rest running.
Beyond the watch tower, the stables and the burning tents, the path led up into the mountain. It was decided to leave the rescue of the dragon-marked heirs until we had settled with Hecate. The path led past a cave being converted to raise fungi. We stopped in the cave for a short rest.
