Felix’s Resort
With the death of Silas Snakeye, the danger to Merix and Lisette was lessened. It was time to talk to Lucretia Morne, the room mate and friend of Helena Carter and learn what became of the pearls that Prisco Alder used to bribe her, ten years ago.
Catching a ride with the inter-island ferry, we sailed out to Felix’s Resort on the protected coast of Windward Isle. Felix’s Resort was a sprawling two-story structure, set on a slope overlooking a broad stretch of sandy beach. Behind the main building was a small array of bungalows available to guest desiring more room or privacy. We decided to stay at two bungalows for two nights.
While we were being shown to our bungalow, Cassander asked about Lucretia Morne. The porter told us that Lucretia Morne was the night manager. The porter added that if we were going around after night fall, we should be careful as there have been sightings of sea devils recently.
As the ferry delivered us to Felix’s Resort around noon and Lucretia would not be on duty until later, there was time to go down to the beach and enjoy swimming. Zayd noticed a pair – a man and an older woman, disembarking off a recently arrived yacht – they might be brother and older sister.
At dinner, Zayd pointed out the pair that had gotten off the yacht. The two were joined by two more women. Noticing that one of the women was moving as if injured, Cassander went over to their table and introduced himself. He offered healing in turn for the story about how the woman got injured. The woman introduced herself as Stella Blackwood. She was exploring sea caves on the east side of the island when she was attacked by sea devils.
In addition to the yacht that Stella Blackwood was using, the other ship anchored off the resort was the Sweet Caroline, a larger yacht owned by Tully Destang of the Destang Distillery fortune. He was presently hunting in the interior.
In asking about Lucretia Morne, we learned that she had been tasked to go out to one of the local Tannova villages, a place known as Turtle Tribe village, and had not returned. She was probably staying there rather than risk the travel back to the resort.
In the morning, we were joined at the breakfast table by Felix, the owner of Felix’s Resort. News had come to him that Turtle Tribe village had been attacked by the sea devils. Lucretia had been wounded. If we were willing to travel out to the village and look into the sea devil problem, he would be willing to comp our stay on the island.
We agreed – and to shorten the trip, the local Tannova at the resort were willing to bring us to Turtle Tribe with their dugout catamaran. Arriving at the village, we saw that it was protected by a palisade and stood on a motte. Inside the palisade were several airy houses, corresponding to the five clans that made up Tannova society. We found Lucretia in the Turtle House.
She was recovering from her injuries. Seeing us, Lucretia warned us that the sea devils were looking for some from Felix’s Resort. They had a key chain from the resort, a key chain that someone had dropped. Three of the Tannova villagers from Turtle Tribe had been taken prisoner and were being held on Fang Island. The sea devils would probably sacrifice them to their gods before launching an attack on the resort.
We could see Fang Island from the porch of Turtle House, a low lying island with a few rocks, lying on the horizon. Discussing it among ourselves, we decided to rescue the sea devil hostages.
